Russell 36 East Carter 12
#1
This one took place at Greenup high school and when all was said and done, I am going to go out on a limb and say, that most walked away saying East Carter is well improved overall but still a year or so away. Russel is still Russell and they are as usual, deep and well coached.

(The GAME REPORT AND UNOFFICIAL STATS ARE FOR THE VARSITY PORTION OF THE GAME. THE FINAL SCORE WILL INCLUDE THE JV QUARTER)

The East carter defense got back to back sweet plays from #89, who shows a flicker, that he will be a force on both sides of the ball, if the coaching staff puts him in the offensive part of the game) The first play came in the shape of a sack on the Russell QB #8. The other play was a stoppage of a running play for a big loss.

#19 For Russell would give his team the games first points, with a quick65-yard run, with 7:14 left in the opening quarter. #6 connected on the point after kick to make the score 7-0.

Defense was the name of the game for the rest of the quarter, with the exception of a middle screen thrown to #21 of East Carter and he galloped to a gain close t0 30 yards.

The Russell defense got back to back sacks on East Carter quarterback #4. The first occurred at the 11:01
mark of the 2nd quarter with #61 doing the honors. The 2nd came from #42, who got to the quarterback for a 9-yard loss.
#4 shook off the effects of the two sacks, to throw a nice looking pass towards #20, who was tightly covered by the Russell defender. The end result was a very nice grab by #20 to give East Cater their first score of the game. #21 missed the point after, so the score stayed 7-6 Russell.

Just when it appeared that Russell was going to score again #2 of East Carter picked off a pass thrown by QB 8. at his own one-yard line, with 5:05 left in the quarter.

The final score of the half came on a 26-yard field goal by #6 from Russell.
Score 10-6 Russell at the half.

The final frame in the varsity portion of the game showed that there was no quit from the East Cater players and that Russell was still Russell.

With 10:19 left in the game #9 from East Carter would sack #8 of Russell, for a big 7-yard loss.
#9 would make another big play at the 9:37 mark of the final frame, when he stopped #19 for a three-yard on a screen play.
The East Carter defense would add another big play to its story, when #72 &3 stopped #19 for a short gain of 2-yards, with 8:53 left.

#8 for Russell would hit a wide opened #10 for a 40-yard touchdown, with 5:31 left. A two point run was stopped by East Carter to leave the score 16-6 Russell.

Russell scored its final points of the game at the 4:46 mark of the quarter, on a 8-yard run by #22.

Great report! Us fans love what you do during this time of the year to give us an unbiased preview of the area. The pictures are fantastic as is the report.

Anyone have any updates on Russell's injury status? I Heard number #42 of Russell went down with some kind of injury in the scrimmage.
#4
I believe thats Stump. With the qb already out this would be another big blow, esp on defense

What happened to the QB? Was he injurued as well or in practice?
#6
Stump was listed on the roster filed with the the khsaa but but the day after the scrimmage with East Carter he was removed from the roster. It doesn't sound good.
#7
Stump has been added back to the roster at khsaa.org, I Hope all is well and the injury wasn't too bad. Would hate to see Ryan not get to finish out his senior season.

After speaking to someone close to the situation, he is having an MRI to detect whether or not he tore his ACL.
