Red Bird almost closed a few years back. If that "law" were brought into it, Clay County could have been forced to pay the bills and keep it open, just as they would for Oneida Baptist. Both were originally settlement schools, according to the list I posted. It's beyond absurd.
The judge talked about the hardship for the community in the ruling. Every school ever closed used that argument. Students in Perry and Harlan travel farther every day to high school.
