Belfry 33 Pulaski 13 Final
#1
Belfry Pirates 33
Pulaski County 13
Final

The Pirates looked great tonight. The Offensive Line really impressed me. Belfry has 5 senior O-Linemen this year and that's the key to great football on Pond Creek. Isaac Dixon is a BEAST! The kid has a legitimate shot at Mr. Football if he keeps this up. He ended the night with 14 carries for 194 yards and 2 TD's. Brett Coleman was great at QB as well.

The Pirate Defense looked considering they lost their entire Defensive Line to graduation. LB Seth Mounts went out with an injury. Not sure how bad it is but Mounts has to stay healthy for the Pirates to have a shot at championship #8. The kid's had a hard time staying healthy over the years. He's one of the best players on the team but he has to stay healthy and on the field.

Overall the Belfry Pirates looked good all around. Only area they need to work on is Extra Points. The Pirates scored 5 TD's and missed all 5 XP's, that can't happen. But its early, Coach Heywood will get it fixed. For it being the first game of the year, the Pirates looked great. Going to be another great year of football on Pond Creek! Next up, the Pirates travel to Pikeville next week to battle the Panthers.

Prayers for Seth Mounts that’s his injury doesn’t keep him out all season. Dixon is just amazing to watch. You could tell he was running to prove a point last night. All around Belfry looked as good as they could fortune first game of the season. Usually it takes a game or two for them to get their feet under them. Excited to see what the rest of the year holds. Heard #18 and #16 Brad Lowe and Caleb Spears names called a lot on defense. Keep up the good work boys. God bless.

Special Teams have to improve leaps and bounds.

Obviously missing 4 extra points is huge, but the kick coverage team and the lone punt also left lots to be desired. All you need to look at to see the importance of Special Teams is the next opponent. Both of Belfry's last losses to Pikeville were a direct result of Pikeville making every point count.

Hopefully Mounts will be back soon, that would be a tragic loss for this defense.

All in all solid showing. Lots to work on as expected for a season debut without scrimmages.

Have to clean up the timing and execution. That penalty inside the Pulaski redzone also showed how important the small things are.

Belfry also got fortunate a few times. The Maroons dropped a sure TD and also dropped what should have been a key 4th Down conversion.

As for Mr. Dixon... all you can say is "bravo!" Kid is a bonafide superstar. Also thought the line got the job done. Brad Lowe is a monster, hopefully he also can avoid the injury bug because he is poised for a breakout season. Coleman did a very good job running the option.

Sounds like a good showing from Belfry. Congratulations on the win and good luck the rest of the way.

Good win for the Pirates. Dixon is a man on the field. Mount's injury to the elbow will probably keep him out of the Pikeville game....but he should be ready for action in 2-3 weeks. Without Mounts, Belfry's D will struggle. He brings nastiness to a whole different level. Again....it's gonna take Belfry the rest of the season to really round into shape. However......if they're healthy......they have a real shot at #8.

Good win for Belfry. Fairly solid football by both teams. Having Mounts out several weeks will hurt. They need him against Pikeville but that is not gonna happen. They can get by Magoffin and Floyd Central, but North Hardin is a different animal. That game would be hard enough with Mounts. Someone without much middle LB experience is gonna have to step up big time. What can you say about Dixon that has not already been said? He continues to climb the ladder as being mentioned among the Belfry greats. One source, whom I will not name, but has more Belfry football knowledge than anyone, said, "I have not seen acceleration like that since we had David Jones." BTW, Dixon is up to right at 200 pounds and he may have even gained a half step.
