How Long Do We Have?

How Long Do We Have?

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.'

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'

'From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'

'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. From bondage to spiritual faith;

2. From spiritual faith to great courage;

3. From courage to liberty;

4. From liberty to abundance;

5. From abundance to complacency;

6. From complacency to apathy;

7. From apathy to dependence;

8. From dependence back into bondage'

Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29

Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: 'In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying
citizens of this great country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare…' Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the 'complacency and apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, ignore this message. If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone
realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Great post. It is true the American people vote for who they think will give the largest free lunch. We need to cut spending, not increase it. This country has turned into a country of gimme gimme gimme. Like I said in another thread, I think I will file bankruptcy and get on the draw, then I will be in the majority.

You say we need to cut spending, but McCain's proposed policies and plans would have used more money than Obama's. I posted those numbers in a thread a while back.

I also hear a lot of Republicans saying "we need to cut spending and Barack shouldn't spread the wealth." But those same Republicans are happy that McConnell won and he will bring tons of money to the state. Rolleyes

That's telling him. Shut it down.

I'm waiting for a link to be placed before shutting it down. If there are some sources posted to it, then we can keep it open.

How do you define love of country? "Real Americans"? Patriotism? Both sides of the spectrum hold those in disdain who didn't vote for "the only candidate worth voting for." Blah. Blah. Blah.

No, I voted for McConnel because he is a conservative. Now, you know that every Democrat president taxes and spends. Don't even try to deny it. I'm tired of working and keeping up those who don't want to. The government doesn't owe us anything. It doesn't owe us a free check, anything. And it is a fact that under liberals, more people get handouts. They call it liberal for a reason.

Then can you tell me why I know of college students currently getting handouts that don't need them?

Under the current system, I know of kids who can afford to go to college, their parents can pay for it, but they are getting free financial aid that they don't have to pay back. So what do they use this money for instead of school? Big screen, HD televisions, cars, other junk. And at the same time, I know people who cannot afford to go to college that get stuck working crappy jobs trying to save up the money for one semester. Are they more deserving of the financial aid? Yes. Why don't they get it? Beats the crap out of me. What we have now isn't working.
