Woodford takes home 2nd straight region title
#1
MOUNT STERLING — Woodford County went back-to-back Saturday night, winning its second consecutive Region 7 Wrestling Tournament at Montgomery County High School.

Harrison Courtney, the Yellowjackets' three-time defending state champion, trumped his own team with his sixth regional championship in a row.

"Sounds pretty good," Courtney said of his sixth title. "I felt good. It's my last regional tournament. I just figured 'do my best and finish on top.'"
Courtney, who stepped up to 160 pounds from 145 last season, blanked Franklin County's Josh Bruning 11-0 in Saturday's title match.

Courtney (33-0) now has 244 career wins (and 15 losses), surpassing the school record of 242 set by Joe Carr Jr., in 1992. Carr, who had the national record at the time, now assists Joe Carr Sr. in coaching the Jackets.

The national mark now belongs to another Kentuckian, Wayne County's Travis Sullivan, who finished his high school career last year......
