Whitley County was created on January 17, 1818 from adjacent Knox County, Kentucky
The namesake of the county, Colonel William Whitley, is famous locally for fighting many of these battles within the area, eventually driving them out of southeastern Kentucky and safeguarding the Wilderness Road, as well as for his service in the War of 1812, where he died at the Battle of the Thames
Its rugged terrain, densely forested woodlands, and a history of conflict with local Indian tribes all combined to make for a very slow rate of growth in Whitley County. The development of the coal mining industry in the area towards the late 1800s spurred on population growth as poor families from neighboring states rushed in to the county and led to the formation of Corbin, still the largest city in Whitley County.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 445 square miles (1,153 km2), of which 440 square miles (1,140 km2) is land and 5 square miles (13 km2) is water.

Whitley County is located within the Cumberland Plateau of southeastern Kentucky, which is greatly overlapped by the broad Eastern Coal Field region of the state. Because of its location in the midst of Cumberland Mountains, elevations in the county range from 723 feet (220 m) to 2,220 feet (680 m) above sea level [5]. 38,000 acres (150 km2) of western Whitley County are preserved within the Daniel Boone National Forest. Cumberland Falls, located in Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, is the site of the largest waterfall in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Both Daniel Boone Forest and Cumberland Falls State Park are operated by the Kentucky State Parks system, also located in the county. Two regionally significant waterways meander through the county, namely the Laurel and Cumberland river.

Laurel County is a county in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The population was 52,715 at the 2000 census. Its county seat is London.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 444 square miles (1,150 km2), of which 436 square miles (1,129 km2) is land and 8 square miles (21 km2) is water. Part of Laurel River Lake is in Laurel County.

Laurel County, the eighteenth county to be organized in Kentucky, was established by an act of the general assembly, December 12, 1825, from parts of Rockcastle, Clay, Knox and Whitley Counties. However, the actual operation of the county government did not begin until March 1826. Laurel County is home to the Battle of Wildcat Mountain, a pivotal yet little known battle during the American Civil War that kept Confederate armies from advancing on Big Hill, a major stronghold during the war.

The first Kentucky Fried Chicken was started in Laurel County in Colonel Harland Sanders hometown of North Corbin. Due to the history of chicken in the county, The World Chicken Festival is celebrated every year in Laurel County, drawing crowds of up to 250,000 people over the four-day festival.
Kentucky Fried Chicken was founded just 1 mile north of Whitley County in Southern Laurel County.

Knox County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population was 31,795. Its county seat is Barbourville[1]. The county is named for General Henry Knox. It is a prohibition or dry county, with the limited exception of restaurants that seat at least 100, derive at least 70% of total sales from food, and are located in the portion of the city of Corbin that lies within Knox County. It is one of the few coal-producing counties in Kentucky not to experience massive population loss.

Knox County was formed on December 19, 1799 from portions of Lincoln County. It was named after Henry Knox, a general and US Secretary of War. Near Barbourville during the Civil War a battle occurred on September 19, 1861 between 300 Union troops and 800 Confederate troops, which ended as a victory for the Confederates.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 31,795 people, 12,416 households, and 8,939 families residing in the county. The population density was 82 per square mile (32 /km2). There were 13,999 housing units at an average density of 36 per square mile (14 /km2). The racial makeup of the county was 97.84% White, 0.82% Black or African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 0.57% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

• All nude people in your house must be registered in Kentucky.
• An excerpt from brilliant Kentucky state legislation. “No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she be escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club”. Scientists have discovered that the feeling experienced when we are tickled causes us to panic and is a natural defense to little creepy crawlers like spiders and bugs. That same ticklish feeling sends us into a state of panic and elicits a response of uncontrollable laughter if a person tickles us.
