Are there any camps during the dead period? I believe the DP is June 25 - July 9 this year. Thanks!
#5
I have liked WKU camp in the past.

I agree that EKU is a great camp. Coach Hood and his staff do a great job with fundamentals. I went last year and spent some time over there and I was impressed. Kind of made me remember the camp Coach Kidd use to run.

A lot of great 1on 1 attention for the kids at the UPike Camps. Coach Hilton and his staff run a great individual camp! Looks like they have 3 camps this summer.

As for your original question Cardfan1….the one the student-athlete responds the best to!

You and yours have plenty to choose from thanks to a wee bit of research.

I appreciate the info, but I had all of that. I just wanted to hear a few opinions before I dropped $$$ on one of these camps.

Great, and to add, the academic path your son is seeking is beyond valuable in the decision making process.

Got to have an academic path right?

I asked about Math and English camps on Bluegrass Scholars message board.

I believe we'll cover that. Lol

What are you hoping to get out of a camp? Exposure or training? Exposure, the bigger camps UK, UL, UT,... will have smaller college coaches helping and they will be paying more attention to your child as a potential prospect but unless the someone from the actual college invited you down to the camp don't expect much more than the time of day. The camps are nice money makers for the program and it gives them an opportunity to evaluate invited recruits and get to know them better. If you go to the smaller camps you can expect a little more one on one teaching but they will also at least be evaluating the possibility of recruitment as well. The overnight camps will get you the maximum teaching as they will be all about the training. If you haven't already made a highlight film and are hoping to get "discovered" at one of these camps do your research first. Find out who the recruiter is for your area, email or contact by phone, send a link to highlight film, follow up via email, let them know when you are coming to camp and show up early and make sure to seek them out to help put a face to a name. The showcase camps like Nike, Rivals, 247,... are just that showcase camps. If you attend you better be ready to showcase your talents, don't expect much training at these either. Last, don't forget to hydrate at least 24 hours prior to camp. The worst cramps I have ever seen my son have have been after camps until he learned how vital it is to hydrate. All this being said, good players will be found it doesn't matter where they are or where they play. The camps give you an opportunity for your son to see more variety of talent than you can on your everyday practice field. Enjoy the experience and lets get ready for fall.

Washington University in St. Louis, MO is an excellent DIII school with a football team that has had three losing seasons in twenty five years under current head coach Larry Kindbom (156-95). The camps are for juniors and seniors on June 8th and 9th and July 27th and 28. The camps will have several different college coaches from the midwest at them to evaluate kids and they usually have a mini college fair with coaches talking to campers one on one. WUSTL will be playing in Danville, KY against Centre College on September 27th of this year and are joining an athletic conference with Centre in 2015.

In reality, it is very difficult to get into this school with the middle fifty percent of the accepted applications scoring between 32 and 35 on the ACT. A 30 on the ACT with good high school grades has a respectable chance of getting in. Kids that want a great football experience while definitely being challenged academically have found this Ivy League level school to be a great choice. This school is ranked 14th academically in the nation with colleges of medicine, engineering, business, social work, arts and sciences and architecture. It is a four hour drive from Louisville on I-64 to WUSTL for those parents that want to see their kids play and leaving by 8am from Louisville will get you there in plenty of time for home games. The DIII schools don't give athletic scholarsips, but, this school covers 100% of demonstrated financial need for all students. For example: A household income of $60,000 dollars or less would probably allow an accepted student to attend for less than $5,000 dollars a year to possibly full ride on academic scholarship at WUSTL. Applications are due at this school by early January.
