Invasion of the USA

Hoot Gibson Wrote:In over two years, Trump has signed every single bill that McConnell has sent to his desk except one. In the case of Trump's single veto, the bill that Trump vetoed was also opposed by McConnell and had passed over his objection. The math is not hard, TRT, that is a record of 100 percent legislative solidarity between Mitch and Trump.

Trump's words don't matter. Actions count. Trump and McConnell have been steadfast political allies. If you want an example of self deceit, you need look no further than those who blame Congress for Trump's failure to bring illegal immigration under control despite his near unanimous endorsement of McConnell's legislative agenda.

Trump and McConnell are politically joined at the hip through Trump's signature on every single bill that McConnell has asked him to sign. Can you say unanimous consent?

Of course Trump is going to sign legislation coming to him from McConnell, that doesn't mean they're birds of a feather. But what happened there Hoot? Thought you were tied up for the remainder of this busy legislative day. Did you have to gavel out for lunch or something?

So, has new border wall been built without a signed contract, or are the contracts that may be signed today the first for construction of a new wall, TRT? Is this fake news, or was your previous post the fake news? It looks like our military is about to take its first $1 billion hit because of Trump's failure to secure funding for a new wall from Congress. Better late than never I suppose.

Quote:First border wall construction contracts expected to be awarded this week

The first contracts to support the construction of President Donald Trump's much-sought-after border wall are expected to be awarded this week using Pentagon funds, two US defense officials tell CNN.

The officials tell CNN that the first US Army Corps of Engineers contracts to support the wall's construction should be signed this week, with one official saying it could happen as early as Tuesday.

^^ So, your taste for news is of the CNN kind, Hoot? After categorically stating what a miserable failure Trump has been, you source CNN. Thereby defining ONE of the ways in which MR Trump has gone around the antagonist Congress in order to fulfill his campaign promise to build the wall. Good for you.

So, it is your position that President Trump's own Department of Defense was misquoted, or is the Department of Defense in on the plot against President Trump? Exactly where is the new border wall that President Trump miraculously built with no funding from Congress?

As for your assertion that I have stated that President Trump has been a miserable failure, that is just an outright lie on your part. I have said that Trump's record on stemming the tide of illegal immigration has been a miserable failure, which it clearly has been. Apparently, even Donald Trump believes that there have been serious problems with his administration's efforts in this area, as evidenced by his firing of his Secretary of Homeland Security earlier this week.

If one can believe the U.S. Army, even the contracts that were executed yesterday were for the purpose of replacing sections of existing border wall. Can one believe the U.S. Army, or should the author of the following be fired for plotting against President Trump?

(Note that the estimated completion date for the two contracts signed yesterday falls within two months of the 2020 election.)

Quote:Contracts for April 9, 2019
ARMY

SLSCO Ltd., Galveston, Texas, was awarded a $789,000,000 firm-fixed-price contract for border replacement wall construction. Nine bids were solicited with six bids received. Work will be performed in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, with an estimated completion date of Oct. 1, 2020. Fiscal 2019 operations and maintenance, Army funds in the amount of $388,999,999 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Albuquerque, New Mexico, is the contracting activity (W912PP-19-C-0018).

Barnard Construction Co. Inc., Bozeman, Montana, was awarded an $187,000,000 firm-fixed-price contract for design-bid-build construction project for primary pedestrian wall replacement. Four bids were solicited with three bids received. Work will be performed in Yuma, Arizona, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 30, 2020. Fiscal 2019 operations and maintenance, Army funds in the amount of $93,499,999 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles, California, is the contracting activity (W912PL-19-C-0013).

Now I realize that your new focus will be to try your best to make the entirety of this discussion all about the corps of engineers, but no, it is my position that you continue to look for ways to blame Trump or otherwise castigate him as a failure in his efforts to fund and build the border wall. In this case you had to resort to the CNN perspective in order to get any backup. And I'll make one last attempt to point out the obvious; You did just assert the fact that border wall contracts are about to be awarded, did you not? Sounds a lot like border wall construction to me. Oh but wait, you said border wall would not be constructed.

Congress and their puppet masters are the culprit here, not the President. Instead of worrying about people like Cory Booker, Jerrold Nadler and Nancy Pelosi, you're still coming in there sideways bashing Trump. Meanwhile in true antagonist fashion, hundreds of thousands of lifelong wards of state and their progeny, continue to pour across the southern border under the watchful protection of Dems and the 9th Circus. Which you will pay for BTW. It's all Trump's fault.

It just blows my mind that any sane human being could in any way blame Trump for issues concerning the wall...I would think one would blame the obstructionist democrats as well as the jealous members of his own party who will never rest until they are the ones in power. How about 9th circuit judges that cut down EVERYTHING he does, until ultimately it gets overturned by the Supreme Court. You can say that he has failed in bringing his party together, but until some of these imitation republicans are out of office that will never happen because it would stifle their own ambitions. Make no mistake, you have republicans who would rather see our country fail as for Trump to triumph, (i.e. the likes of Collins, Murkowski, Flake, McCain, Rubio, the Bushes, Lee, Romney, Corker, Kasich)...The man has had to fight the entire world, yet is still out there swinging......Is he slick? Is he polished? Nope, not even close. There are some republicans (conservatives) who are acting just as badly as the butt hurt liberals, (critical) because either (A) their guy didn't get elected or (B) are still jealous because they, themselves didn't get elected. Time to get over it, the American people have spoken, and consider the best interest of the country and bring blame to the real culprits and work on getting them out of office.

^^ Exactly right Bob. And although this is changing the subject a bit, my immediate concerns with regard to the resistance fall more directly on the machinations of the CBC. Cases in point, Rep Al Green, Rep Maxine Waters, Rep Elisha Cummins, Rep John Lewis and Sen Cory Booker. But take Maxine specifically.

The place to have had a fight about slavery would have been back the 1800's, when John Wilberforce was busy taking the fight to abolish slavery to the British Parliament. The Brits are the ones whose entire economy was based in the slave trade, not the Americans. But the renaissance under which the consciences of the world were turned against slavery, occurred back then. I mean, we've been past slavery now for a long time. This idea that we can hold people of today accountable for what happened back then, is only eclipsed by the idiocy of making monetary restitution for same, to black folks living in this slavery free day.

In any case, you're never going to see racial biases totally eliminated. The idea is absurd and no legislative effort to do so will ever change that. But Maxine wants to hurt Trump the quintessential white man, to show him that she a black woman, can do it. It's a petty fight which in and of itself is totally grounded in racial bias. I know you can, but I can't believe more people cannot see the reality of it. It's way past time to call for an end of the whole matter.

Nothing changed between the many, many times that Trump promised to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it and election day 2018. Little, if any progress was made during the two years that Republicans controlled the House of Representatives. During that period and since that election, Trump has repeatedly signed spending bills that provided no money for a new southern border wall.

At least half of the Republicans in the Senate were RINOs when Trump campaigned for and won the presidency and that is still the case.

Is Trump responsible for our illegal immigration problem to the extent that the Democrats and Republicans who were in Congress before and after his election? Certainly not. Many Republicans are beholden to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other organizations who lobby for a porous border to suppress wage growth among American citizens and for cheap illegal labor. Democrats simply want more poor people dependent on government, who are more likely to vote for their candidates.

My point is this. Donald Trump did very little for two years to bring illegal immigration under control and the Congress that he inherited was almost exactly the one that existed during the campaign. For two years, not once did Trump stand up to the Republicans who controlled Congress and veto a spending bill for not including funds for a border wall. If he made any effort to persuade Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans to employ the nuclear option to fund a wall, it was a feeble, half-hearted effort.

Now, with the 2020 election approaching, Trump, IMO, is panicking over the prospect of facing Republican voters after failing to make a strong effort to secure the border.

Instead of accepting responsibility and demonstrating some leadership ability, Trump has simply started firing scapegoats via Twitter again.

I agree with those who say that this administration needs to stand up to the federal courts such as the 9th Circuit, but that action needs to come from Trump and the AG, not a Cabinet Secretary such as the one over Homeland Security. Trump should be forcing the issue to the Supreme Court by defying court orders, at least outside of the jurisdiction of the courts issuing the rulings against his initiatives to curb illegal immigration.

As for being butt hurt over my candidate losing in the primaries to Donald Trump, I long ago accepted that it is unlikely that another conservative president will be elected during my lifetime. Socialists have seized control of the national media and our education institutions. Trump may be the best that this county can muster for a president, but staggering federal budget and trade deficits accumulated under presidents like Obama and Trump will eventually lead to a collapse of our economy.

Deficit spending brought down the Roman Empire and every nation that borrowed beyond its means and inflated its currency to repay its debts and this country is not immune to the basic laws of economics.

Yes, Donald Trump kept his promise to appoint conservative judges to the Supreme Court and, yes, he has restored confidence and optimism among companies and their employees, but no, Trump is not a conservative. This economy is doing well thanks partly to Trump's business tax rate cuts, but also in large part because of deficit spending, which allows the federal government to dump large sums of cash into the private economy. Still, GDP growth has remained under 3 percent since Trump took office.

For those of you who think that it is unfair to criticize Trump for not making more progress on the illegal immigration issue, did you believe that Trump would keep his promise? If so, what conditions changed between his election and the 2018 mid-term elections?

Did you expect the proponents of illegal immigration in the House and Senate roll over without a fight? Did you expect liberal federal courts to rule in favor of Trump's executive orders? Did you expect the national media to treat Trump fairly? If not, then how did you expect Trump to keep his wall pledge without holding members of his own party accountable for not providing funding for a wall?

What I quoted and what I highlighted for emphasis was straight from Trump's own Defense Department. CNN had nothing to do with it. Put whatever spin you want on the recently signed contracts, but the U.S. Army describes the documents signed as being for replacing existing fences. This is equivalent to local politicians spreading a thin layer of asphalt on existing roads prior to an upcoming election. Hopefully, the replacement walls will be a big improvement over what they are replacing. It takes time to acquire rights of way, design and build structures where none exist. The clock is ticking and two years have already been wasted.

To be clear I like Hoot but I will not engage him in any arguments about Trump. Trump is far from perfect and the national debt will be the end of prosperity at some point IMO but if not for Trump getting elected America as we know it would be already be history. And idiot Democrats (and several idiot Republicans) are waiting in the wings to "transform" America to into something that is not recognizable.

Exactly JP, I agree with that 100%...There is/was not a man alive, other than Donald Trump that was left to save what was once know as the United States of America ...NOBODY!!! And I sure aint no hero worshiper either. Without Trump, I shudder to imagine what this country would have become in the last 2 years under any of the other republican candidates or under Hillary Clinton..That fact is there is not one single soul that could withstand the barrage of the media, the RINOs and the obstruction of the democratic party and not buckle other than Donald Trump. Scoff if you will, it's fact.. Also fact, there is not another republican candidate that could beat Hillary Clinton to begin with. Looking back at some of the other candidates in the Republican party that I gave serious consideration, I now look at a bunch of pathetic spineless jelly fishes that would have given us just more of the same ole same ole "give in to em" republicans that we have had ever since the loss of Ronald Reagan. But I will say, I was sure wrong about Lindsey Graham. He has been the surprise.
