Prayer Request
#1
A 16 year-old girl at Martha Layne Collins High School died in a car wreck yesterday in Crawford County, IN. Please pray for her family during this tough time.

(WHAS11)- A 16-year-old girl is dead after a car crash on Sunday. The accident happened after 9:30 a.m. on I-64 just west of the 92 mile marker.

Haley Simpson from Shelbyville, Ky. died from injuries that she sustained from the accident. She was riding as a passenger in the car.

The Crawford County Sheriff's Department tells us the driver was 16-year-old Kelsie Ross who is also from Shelbyville, Ky.

Her boyfriend, Matt Kaiser, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Both Ross and Kaiser were released from the hospital Sunday.

There were four other passengers in the car. Their conditions are still unknown.

WHAS11's Brooke Katz spoke to authorities who say they believe Ross ran off the side of the road due to snow, overcorrected and then lost control of the vehicle.

At this time, police do not believe that alcohol was involved.

WHAS11.com will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.

(WHAS11)- WHAS11 is learning more about an accident that killed one teenager and sent five other people to the hospital.

The crash happened in Crawford County, Ind. Sunday morning.

Police say the 16-year-old driver was from Shelbyville, Ky.

WHAS11’s Brooke Katz spoke exclusively with 20-year-old Matt Kiser, one of the survivors of the crash.

Kiser is the boyfriend of the driver. He managed to walk away with few physical injuries, some bruised ribs, cuts and bruises, but it is the images of the crash that he says will continue to haunt him.

The day was supposed to be a joyous holiday occasion, but it took a deadly turn for 20-year-old Matt Kiser and his friends.

Kiser, his 16-year-old girlfriend Kelsie Ross, their friend 16-year-old Haley Simpson and three others were on their way to a holiday party in Indiana Sunday morning, when the unexpected happened.

The Crawford County Sheriff's Office says they believe Kelsie, who was driving her 1996 Chevy Lumina, veered out of her lane on I-64 near the Leavenworth exit. They say they believe she overcorrected and lost control of the car.

According to deputies, no one in the car was wearing a seatbelt when it went off the north side of the road, going over an embankment, hitting some trees and then rolling over onto its side.

Simpson was thrown from the car, dying from the injuries she sustained.

It is a moment burned into Kiser's mind, a terrifying accident he says could have happened to anyone.

Both Kiser and Ross were discharged from the hospital Sunday afternoon.

There is no word on the condition of the other three passengers.

Prayers! These situations are always so sad, and leave lots of questions and so few answers. Just cling tight to Jesus, and have faith.
