WYMT Boys' Mountain Top Ten
#31
As far as the 15th goes, I guess Shelby Valley should be ranked ahead of Paintsville, they are afterall undefeated and now have a couple wins over quality teams. But for some to say that Paintsville has only played good teams but hasn't beaten any....you are wrong, or don't know a good team when you see one. Alcoa Tn. is very good!!! Paintsville beat them by 7 and scored 62 points against them. other teams alcoa played scored, Seneca 46, North Hardin 59, Russellville 45, Brewbaker Tech 46!
Paintsville also beat two teams in Florida that were both ranked top ten in their class! a 2A school and a 5A school. The record of the teams they have beaten is 32-28, not counting the 2 Fl. teams tht are both like 9-2 or 9-3 after they played Paintsville. and, so it might be closer to 50-33 or there abouts.
SV opponents have a blistering record of 32-45, not counting the three out of state schools, which probably will make the records look even worse for SV.
So don't come on here and act like SV is head and shoulders better than everyone in the 15th. they have not proved anything like that. But since they are undefeated....we will say that they should be ranked higher than anyone else in the 15th.
But trust me!!! You are really gonna hear it when they drop one to a 15th team....and you know they will!

Of course SV fans think highly of their team. If they didn't something would be wrong. And the SV fans should be proud of their undefeated season so far. And if SV wins the WYMT, then I will start taking them seriously because then they will have proved themselves to me and at that point probably to everyone esle. But as of right now, they have not beaten one team that Paintsville could not have beaten. And at least 8 15th region teams could beat 80% of the teams they have played. So you can't just get on here and act like they are rated in the top 10 nationally and that no other 15th teams could beat them. I have not once said that SV is not good and I won't even say that Paintsville would beat SV if they played. But I think that if both teams had good games, it would be a great game to watch and I think that Paintsville would win.

powell beat both belfry and cumberland. why sren't they in the top ten?
#35
I'd like breatthit county a little higher as they beat a very good hazard team in the HIT

South and North Laurel (and Laurel Co. before it de-consolidated), have been considered mountain teams since their schools opened.

Well I sure dont remember their name until they won the Championship but I guess thats the way it goes

WYMT considers them "mountain teams", but no way Laurel County is in the mountains.

Anyway, I don't put much stock in the WYMT rankings. Powell should be there, but you know how it goes with rankings.

Yea thats what im saying...I dont put Laurel County in the Mtns either

In my opinion...Powell County should at least be looked at. They've already beat Belfry and Cumberland. In the Belfry game they were up by 20 most of the game, and in the second Cumberland game they never seemed to lose control. But i guess we'll just have to wait till the Hazard and PCC games to see what they're really made of
#42
Its Simple...1.Hazard 2.JBS 3.Breathitt...But since Hazard got beat it should be 1.Breathitt 2.JBS 3.Hazard....You always gonna fall back when ya lose

I'm wondering where Powell is they've beaten both Belfry and Cumberland. They have played a rugged enough schedule to be considered and have won big games. I'm agreeing with ALLDAY
#44
Didn't Valley beat Powell by like 60 right before the season started. No way any team should be in the top ten getting beat like that.

EKY Sportster Wrote:Look, first of all I don't consider Bell Co. that great of a team. Second Ballou DC blew P-burg out of the gym in the Tiger Hoops Classic by 60 points and they went 1-2 in the Hoops tourney, didn't even make it to the final four of the tourney, and went 0-2 in the King of the Bluegrass tourney. So that proves nothing. If anything, it just shows you that there are a lot of teams out there that can match SV's accomplishments but wouldn't be a top 25 team in the state. I'm serious, beating P-burg by 60 is not anything to brag about. And everyone on here acting like Bell Co. is #1 in the state is rediculous. Look at their schedule and scores on the KHSAA website. They have played a weak schedule and done very little to brag about.

Again, I am not saying that SV is not good, or that Paintsville would blow them out or anything like that. I am just making the case that they haven't proven themselves this season so far, at least to justify the hype being piled on these threads by the SV faithful. Lets just let them play and see where they end up. That way no one has to come back on here and say "told you so" later on.

All I can tell you is to watch them play. I wasn't a believer either until I went and watched them in Corbin. That team plays harder than any team I have ever watched. They may or may not win the WYMT tournament this year but I would be very suprised if they are beaten in the regional tournament. I think anybody that has watched them would say that this is a fair statement even if you are not from Shelby Valley like me.

I agree!!! I believe Powell deserves to be in the top ten. They beat Cumberland by 14 in the Letcher Central tourney, and Belfry in the Johnson central tourney.

Thats exactly right "Before the season started" and without there best player. So that game didnt even count. :moon:

But Cumberland also beat them by 8 at Powell. Also, maybe because theyre 9-6 (something like that) could be a reason for not being in the top 10. Granted, most of the 6 were without Romans but they still have 6 losses. I think they will definately be in the top 10 later though.

With or without the best player, 60 points is 60 points. I don't think he could have made up for 60 points unless he is Kobe Bryant. No team that has been beaten that bad should be in the top ten. That would be like saying P-burg deserves to be in the top ten. I know it didn't count but I still think the kids tried like they would've in a game.

I think the only way South Laurel is gonna move from the top spot of the mtns is if Hazard beats them when they play....Since that is the only team they play in the Mtns
