2014 UK Football Recruiting

@STUNNA_C4 let's do it

However all these tweets are from last night, and things can change at anytime. I'm just trying to figure out who the other guys is for crying outloud. Also Denzel Ware is now rated a 4* on Rivals and his location has changed to Opp, Alabama. Which is where he has moved to according to his twitter, & it is confirmed he is going to be a DE. Watching his highlight video, I can see why at Crestview he played in a 3 man front & used his speed as well as strength even lining up at NG. Although they don't have him listed as committed to UK, it does show him having an offer & highly interested.

The other guy is Quantavise Stoudemire also from Opp, Alabama a 6' 220 lbs. LB. The only thing I can find is his highlight tape:

UK makes good early impression on WR Kief

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

Derek Kief doesn't have any favorites but it's obvious Kentucky is in good shape with the 6-foot-5 receiver.

That much was easy to tell simply from Kief's tone when he returned home from Lexington and UK's junior day this weekend. Kief picked up an offer from Kentucky a few weeks ago and has been making a concerted effort to visit schools early this year while he has the opportunity.

"I loved it down there. It felt like home," Kief said. "Everything about it down there just felt like home and it was my first time going down there."

Kief is the younger teammate of recent UK signee Jaleel Hytchye at Cincinnati (Ohio) La Salle so he has at least one person close to him giving a nudge in the direction of Lexington.

But over the weekend the school and the program stood on their own merits.

"The basketball game was crazy. It was like going to a Heat game," he said. "The atmosphere is great. The fans are crazy of course. I liked that a lot."

The sports science presentation that was a hit with so many others also resonated with Kief.

"That was pretty crazy," he said. "I had never seen or heard anything like that. It would definitely be great because it seems like that would take your performance to the next level."

Wide receivers coach Tommy Mainord was around Kief for most of the day but the other assistants made it a point to introduce themselves. Kief said they were all approachable and easy to relate to.

"They told me their entire coaching staff is under 44-years old and coach (Mark) Stoops is 45. That's really easy to relate to," he said.

And of course the offense is a big selling point for any wide receiver. Neal Brown, Mainord and the other coaches made it clear the receivers are going to have plenty of opportunities to showcase their skills.

"They were talking about that a bunch especially with me being a wide receiver. That would benefit me a lot. They walked through what they would do with me specifically in their offense. They feel like I could contribute a lot," he said.

Kief already has offers from Kentucky, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern and a few MAC schools. He's keeping an open mind and said he doesn't have any favorites but two schools in particular, Kentucky and Northwestern, have "shown the most love," in his words.

The weekend also gave Kief the opportunity to spend time with four-star quarterback Drew Barker.

"We're not close friends or anything but whenever I see him on visits we can hold conversations and we hang out," Kief said. "I think I'm going to try to throw with him in the offseason."

Indiana could be the next school Kief visits, but a follow-up trip to Kentucky could be in the works soon as well.

"I'll definitely be back down there at some point," he said.

4* 2014 WR Braxton Berrios from Raleigh, NC has picked up an offer from UK. He has offers from Duke, Maryland, Minnesota, UNC, South Carolina, VT & Wake Forest. Berrios who is 5'10" 175 lbs., is being called the next Wes Welker. Besides being smaller, & caucasian, he's a little slower with a 4.6 40 time but yet elusive like Welker.

A new name has emerged in 2014 4* LB Vincent Jackson Jr. from Tampa, FL.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiti...son-130548

Apparently, he & Chad Scott have a tight relationship.

Vincent Jackson Jr.ひ ‏@VMJacksonJr I just want to feel some love from #BBN , I know Coach Scott loves me pic.twitter.com/E5bDPMHS

Vincent Jackson Jr.ひ ‏@VMJacksonJr
Just got off the phone w/ Coach Scott form Kentucky, tells me of an official offer coming soon #BBN

Despite the namesake, I've not been able to find any relation to Vincent "Bo" Jackson or Tampa Bay Bucs WR Vincent Jackson. Kind of ironic, he lives in Tampa & the latter plays in Tampa. Not to mention, Bo was originally drafted by Tampa. None the less, he's hyping the BBN on Twitter & loving it. He holds offers from Auburn, Miami (FL), Michigan State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, NC State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Vandy, & WVU.

UK has also been in contact with 2014 4* WR Blake Bone from Woodruff, SC. Bone holds offers from Clemson, Ole Miss & South Carolina.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...J7O5VIPZB4

UK's #1 TE target is Ethan Wolf from Minster, Ohio. The fact that UK is even recruiting TE's means Brown has tweet his offense a little as Texas Tech rarely used one. Wolf holds offers from UK, as well as Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, & Pitt.

2014 LB T.J. Posey from Gadsen, AL has picked up an offer from UK. He also holds offers from Arkansas, Mississippi State, Purdue, & Tennessee. He is also seeing interest from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech & Washington.

He also has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Missouri, UNC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Vandy, Virginia Tech, & Wisconsin. Stoops & company aiming high.

UK has extended offers to a slew of guys tonight. Apparently, Stoops' philosophy is to shoot for the higher guys as well as the guys we're likely to get. He's said they're not targeting in on any one specific yet, but want to gather in SEC talent for visits & show them what UK has to offer.

One of those offered, was 4* LB Clifton Garrett from Joilet, IL. Garrett received national media attention this week after he tweeted a pic of letters he's received, along with a statement of 54 hand written letters from Ole Miss. Garrett is ecstatic about his offer from UK & has said he definitely wants to visit. He is visiting Ohio State this weekend but says he wants to visit soon even though it probably won't be on the 23rd. He also has offers from Arizona State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Purdue, & Wisconsin.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...rKodRIPZB4

4* WR Drake Harris from Grand Rapids, MI received an offer as well. Harris is a soft verbal for both football & basketball to Michigan State, he's considered the football team's prized commit. He's also a 4* in basketball. He's opened up his recruitment & is likely to visit UK sometime in the spring. He also has offers from Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Vandy, Indiana, & Purdue. According to Rivals, the same schools he has offers from in football, he has in basketball.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/michiganstate/fo...ris-126432

UK also offered 4* safety Darius West from Lima, OH. West is good friends with Mikel Horton. West has offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Penn State, Purdue, & WVU. He's also getting interest from Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, & Wisconsin.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...est-137993

Another one that received an offer is 4* DE Keyon Brown from Wauchula, FL. Brown has offers from Miami (FL), Pitt, & UCF. He's also getting interested from Florida, Florida State, Iowa State, LSU, Minnesota, Oregon, South Carolina, & USF.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...tmBqNIPZB4

Another WR to get a UK offer is Kendrick Holland from Winter Haven, FL. He also has offers from Clemson & Virginia Tech.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/flavarsity/footb...Nakr1gR5B4

Finally, LB Andrew Beck from Tampa, FL received an offer from UK. He hasn't been rated by Rivals but is about to blow up. Also just got an offer from Miami (FL).

http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiti...eck-137089

3* RB Jonathan Vickers from Tallahassee, FL is intriguing but UK is holding off for now. Vickers was lost for his entire junior season due to a broken left leg. Which UK plans to investigate further before offering. Vickers has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, & TCU. He also has interest from Auburn & Notre Dame, as well as UK. He would likely be higher ranked if not for the injury.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...ers-130843

4* safety Erick Smith from Cleveland, OH is expected to get an offer from UK soon. Marrow has been in touch with him. Smith holds offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan, NC State, Ohio State, & WVU. He's also getting interest from Pitt.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...ith-143554

Marrow has also been in contact with DE Joe Henderson from Cleveland, OH & he's expected to receive an offer soon. Henderson has offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Minnesota, & Pitt. He is also receiving interest from Michigan & Ohio State.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ohiostate/footba...son-136821

UK is still working to get Thaddeus Snodgrass on campus for the 23rd. He has recently spoke with Marrow, Marrow & Snodgrass' head coach are tight. Snodgrass is also friends with Dorian Hendrix, who seems to be a big UK lean currently.
#73
UK has offered 4* CB Step Durham from Jacksonville, FL. He has offers from GA Tech, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, UNC, NC State, South Carolina, & Vandy. He's also getting interest from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, Tennessee, & UCF.

Where you seen him tonight??

Apparently, DB Patrick Porter is about as real as Teo's girlfriend. He didn't visit UK last weekend, as reported on twitter & he also doesn't have an offer as said via twitter. UK personnel seem to not know anything about the kids.

Thaddeus Snodgrass has said his favorites right now are South Carolina & UK. He seems to be very tight with Drew Barker & Braxton Berrios, who also have offers from the two schools. They could very well be a package deal.

Denzel Ware says out of 1-10 confidence, he's an 8 that he'd sign with UK.

Louisville commit, Reggie Bonnafon received an offer from UK tonight.

Tavise Stoudemire talked to D.J. Elliot tonight.

Safety Darrion Owens has received an offer from UK. He also holds offers from BC, Maryland, NC State, & Troy. He is getting interest from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami (FL), & South Carolina.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/re...ens-142497

Hearing the reason no other RB's have emerged for the 2014 class is due to Braylon Heard. Although no news has emerged about Heard, UK still seems to be his favorite granted that his release becomes unconditional.

The aforementioned DE Joe Henderson, picked up an offer this morning.

A new name emerging 4* OLB/DE Bryson Allen-Williams from Ellenwood, GA.

Another in-state name to watch is athlete Joe Brown from Butler High School

I was just wondering what setting, from what I've seen of the kid he could be the biggest get in UK history and/or the biggest KY college prospect ever.

I will say this, He's a good defensive player, not too good of a scorer or anything on the offense front but if you have the ball and he wants it and he can get his hands on it he will take it away from you.

I like what Coach Stoops and company are doing but why not offer some 5* prospects instead of just 4* or lower prospects?
#82
Strikeout King Wrote:I like what Coach Stoops and company are doing but why not offer some 5* prospects instead of just 4* or lower prospects?

I think the reasoning for this is there are currently only 14 5* players in the 2014 class. I think you'll see more added during and/or after the fall with the players' senior year production. There were 34 5* players in the 2013 class. Obviously with perennial powers such as USC, Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame & LSU most pick those schools. We would be ignorant to think we even have a shot at them right now. Of the 34 5* players in the class of 2013, USC signed 5, Alabama signed 4, Notre Dame signed 4, Ole Miss signed 3 with what I call the Nkemdiche affect, & Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, LSU, & Auburn signed 2 a piece. That accounts for 26 & the other 8 are scattered throughout at one a piece. So UK may already be actively recruiting a 5* or two or three, they're just not rated that high yet. On top of that, it's just unrealistic to pursue the Top 14 players in the nation, as more than likely they'll pick one of the aforementioned schools. Not to mention a lot of kids pick USC because they're on the west coast geographically, while most others are the eastern side of the states. So of the 10 or so teams that consistently get 5 star players, most of the schools are on the eastern seaboard & UK has to recruit against these school not to mention of those 10, 5 or more are from the SEC.

Ware is first 2014 UK football commitment

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

If you thought Kentucky's white-hot recruiting would slow down just because National Signing Day has come and gone, think again.

Mark Stoops and his staff are striking while the iron is hot and on Tuesday the Wildcats picked up their first verbal commitment from a Class of 2014 prospect.

To say it was a big one would be an understatement. Denzel Ware, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound defensive end from Opp (Ala.), was tabbed as the No. 223 prospect in the nation and was awarded four stars upon the release of the Rivals250.

So why did Ware pick UK?

"Because I have a great relationship with coach (Mark) Stoops and (coach D.J.) Eliot and it's just where I want to be," Ware replied via text message.

Simple as that.

Ware was not available for further comment but he did confirm that he's a "solid" commitment. He had previously been committed to Florida State before opening his recruitment back up.

The four-star prospect had built a relationship with Stoops and Eliot while they were at Florida State, and upon arriving at Kentucky the coaches continued to recruit him.

In addition to UK and Florida State, Ware also had offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech, Ohio State, Texas and USC, among others. Ware is just the latest in what is becoming a long line of talented defensive linemen that will arrive in Lexington in the years ahead.

In recent months the Wildcats nabbed signatures from four-star ends Za'Darius Smith and more recently Jason Hatcher, not to mention athletic pass-rushers such as Alvonte Bell and Reggie Meant.

Kentucky takes aim at WR Braxton Berrios

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

Braxton Berrios is one of the most sure-handed wide receivers in the nation and he's already got a four-star ranking on Rivals.com. He recently spoke with Kentucky for the first time and he quickly picked up an offer from the Wildcats.

Just a few days ago the 5-foot-10, 173-pound receiver from Raleigh (N.C.) Leesville Road spoke with UK wide receivers coach Tommy Mainord. Shortly thereafter he had a conversation with Kentucky offensive coordinator Neal Brown.

"They basically said the same things," Berrios said. "They say it's a great situation to walk into. They're coming from Texas Tech and bringing the Air Raid to the SEC. They have a certain number of wide receivers on scholarship and basically they said if you can come in and play then you're going to play as a freshman. So there's early playing time.

"They're just saying things are about to turn around up there."

Berrios said he noted Brown and Mainord both seemed young, energetic and ready to usher in a new era in Lexington.

"I think they're gonna do some stuff at Kentucky," he said.

The four-star receiver has gone back and forth on Twitter with four-star quarterback Drew Barker, another major Kentucky target. The two actually aren't that close yet, but they seem to be building a connection.

"Me, him and Thad (Thaddeus Snodgrass) have really been talking a lot for the last two days," Berrios said. "I can't remember how I know Drew. We started talking a month or two ago but I've never met him in person. Me and Thad have been a few places together and I know him personally. We've been talking for the last two days also."

When asked whether he will visit Kentucky at some point Berrios said he that's a trip he would like to make. He picked up an offer from Brown on Tuesday evening.

The only recent college visit Berrios has taken was to East Carolina for a junior day. His brother attends the school and that was a convenient visit to make.

"This spring I"m going to try to get out a little more and visit as many schools as I can. I'm completely open," he said.

Edwards another in string of UK Ohio targets

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

The Wildcats' junior day probably gave everyone a pretty good idea of what areas they plan to recruit especially hard: Kentucky, Florida and Ohio.

Ohio may prove to be the most important recruiting ground of all for Kentucky.

Over the weekend UK offered Mike Edwards, a top junior safety from the Buckeye State. The Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods prospect is friends with recent UK signee Jaleel Hytchye and he attended Kentucky's junior day last Saturday.

"The offensive line coach (John Schlarman) came up to me and brought me into coach (Mark) Stoops' office," Edwards recalled. "I was talking to coach Stoops and he said he really liked me. He said he's a defensive coach and he knows a good DB when he sees one. He said I'm one of them and he said they were offering me."

Excited doesn't even begin to describe Edwards' reaction to that development.

"I loved Kentucky," he said. "I really liked the fans. The fans are great. The coaches treated me like family. I really liked that visit because they treat you like one of their own. They showed us around everywhere and we got to do a lot of things around their facilities."

There could be a friendly disagreement on the staff about who would get Edwards. According to the 6-foot, 178-prospect, Derrick Ansley likes him as a cornerback but Bradley Dale Peveto likes him as a safety.

Needless to say UK would be happy with Edwards at either position and their first goal is getting him on campus for good.

Edwards spent most of his time with fellow Ohio recruits like Derek Kief, Mikel Horton, Dorian Hendrix, George Brown and Tyrell Gilbert, an athlete from Cincinnati (Ohio) Princeton.

While Edwards clearly has a lot of interest in Kentucky he said it would be incorrect to assume he has a favorite.

"UK is one of my tops. I really like them but I don't have any favorites yet," he said.

Last fall Edwards tallied picked off five passes, forced two fumbles and recovered two fumbles.

Indiana, Illinois and several MAC schools have also offered.

Four-star DB Singleton recaps UK visit

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

Deion Singleton probably couldn't have anticipated a year ago that he would be visiting Kentucky just after National Signing Day.

But there he was in Lexington last Saturday along with talented teammates Jacob Pugh and De'Eric Culver.

The Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby trio left for Kentucky on Friday. They arrived late Friday night and perhaps even early Saturday morning by Singleton's estimate, and they were scheduled to leave on Sunday.

"It was pretty good," Singleton said. "I enjoyed the environment and everything around the school."

Singleton had been looking forward to the opportunity to watch a UK basketball game and the Cats' 72-62 win over Auburn wasn't a disappointment.

"Oh yeah, that was pretty good," he said with a laugh. "The fans were crazy. I enjoyed getting a chance to see some of the new basketball players they've got up there."

On the football side Singleton enjoyed rubbing shoulders with the new staff in Lexington. Were it not for that new staff, especially Mark Stoops, D.J. Eliot and Derrick Ansley, it's unlikely they ever would have visited Lexington.

Singleton said he was able to speak with just about every staff member. But it was the three just mentioned that he spent most of his time with.

The Cats aren't sure if they would prefer Singleton at cornerback or safety. Right now all they know is they want him on the team.

"Coach Stoops just said he likes me a lot and he likes the way I play," he said. "He wants to see more of me. I'd say I have quite an interest in them. I don't really have any favorites though."

The 6-foot-2, 165-pound prospect already has the highest possible four-star rating a recruit can attain on Rivals.com. He told Cats Illustrated that he's not sure whether he will visit any other schools in the near future.

Linebacker Pugh says Cats still among leaders

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby linebacker Jacob Pugh announced that Kentucky was his favorite last week. That was probably received with some skepticism.

After all, Pugh had never visited Kentucky and by the time he makes his decision he's likely to have offers from most of the schools in the SEC.

But over the weekend Pugh visited UK with teammates Deion Singleton and De'Eric Culver, and he hasn't changed his tune.

"They're still standing out, most definitely," Pugh told Cats Illustrated while he was on his way back to the Sunshine State.

Kentucky's coaches told Pugh they see him as a hybrid defensive end and linebacker that can stand up on the edge or put his hand in the dirt and give bigger, slower offensive tackles problems. Much of that will be determined by how much he grows over the next year.

Pugh didn't really know what to expect heading into the trip but he said it was a good one.

"I enjoyed it. I actually liked Kentucky," he said. "I enjoyed seeing the campus and mingling with the coaches a little bit."

Believe it or not Pugh liked Kentucky in spite of the basketball game, not because of it.

"I liked how the crowd supported them. The game was just boring," he said with a laugh. "It wasn't interesting, probably because they weren't playing anybody. Other than that it was all good."

UK assistant coach Derrick Ansley has a good relationship with Godby and is likely to heavily recruit the school so long as he is in Lexington. Ansley spent plenty of time with all three of the Godby athletes and their coach while they were in town.

Pugh also interacted with D.J. Eliot and Mark Stoops throughout the trip.

"I had a good conversation with the coaches," Pugh said. "I talked to them about my academics first and then I talked to them about football. They talked about the defense they're bringing into the program and they told me how they see me helping them."

Florida State's next junior day appears to be the next event on the calendar for Pugh.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect has offers from Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Carolina, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.

Kentucky offers 2015 lineman Brown

Justin Rowland
Special to CatsIllustrated.com

George Brown is only a sophomore at Cincinnati (Ohio) Colerain but over the weekend he picked up his first offer. His family is already experienced when it comes to the recruiting process.

Brown has two older siblings that went through the process. Most recently his brother Aaron Brown signed with Virginia Tech coming out of Cincinnati (Ohio) Princeton in the Class of 2006. At the time he was a four-star prospect and the No. 7 overall recruit in Ohio according to Rivals.com.

The younger Brown has the potential to be mentioned in the same breath, and may even eventually exceed his brother's hype.

At 6-foot-6 and 253-pounds, Brown does a little bit of everything for Colerain but he's likely to be recruited as an offensive tackle. He was at Kentucky over the weekend.

"It was really good," Brown said. "I liked the new coaches and everything. It's a great campus. It was my second time down there but my first time with the new coaches being there.

"The coach I talked to the most was probably coach (John) Schlarman, the offensive line coach. I talked with coach (Mark) Stoops a couple of times, too."

Schlarman gave Brown a solid endorsement. He told the Class of 2015 recruit that he liked his highlight tape and "wants [him] to come play for UK."

Brown left Lexington with a verbal offer, his first of the process. That's likely to help UK's chances down the road. Schlarman was the coach that let Brown know he has a spot with the Cats.

"I really don't have a list right now but Kentucky was the first school to offer me," he noted.

The basketball game and seeing 24,000 Kentucky fans supporting their Wildcats was one of the highlights of the trip, he said.

Brown is likely to continue playing tight end, offensive line and defensive end for Colerain. He told Cats Illustrated he does not have any other college visits scheduled.
