The two teams with the last 5 3a rings clash on Pond Creek. 2 legendary programs with two of the all time great coaches. 14 state titles between the two programs. Boyle County with 24 wins in a row and Belfry with a crazy 76-9 record in their last 6 seasons with only 5 losses to KY teams. Belfry has only 3 home playoff losses since CAM was opened in 2005. 06 Russell, 08 Breathitt, and 09 to Sheldon Clark.

Boyle brings a well balanced offensive machine with arguably the best group of skill players to ever travel to Pond Creek. They bring a very solid defense and a championship pedigree with a swag born out of success and confidence not cockiness.

Belfry counters with a dynamic offensive unit that can light the lamp in a hurry and a defense that has struggled mightily at times but has been able to make some big plays to survive.

I’m a Pirate through and through but I’m also a realist. Boyle is the favorite and should be. My head says 42-28 Rebels. Too much balance and not enough stops for the Belfry D. My BiG Red heart says 34-28 Belfry. Boyle is off just a bit and Belfry capitalizes on their drives and they ride the firm of Browning, Coleman, and Dixon and the fantastic offensive line to victory.

This should be a great matchup between two giants. Strategy wise I hope a monsoon hits Belfry. Fan wise I hope for just the opposite. The early forecast looks like great football weather.

I think that's about how it will play out. I definitely don't see it as being another shootout. I'll be shocked if Boyle County gives up 50 points.

Look, anyone that thinks Belfry can't win is smoking funny cigarettes. Belfry has one of the best coaches in the history of KHSAA Football. They are playing at home and it's nearly a FOUR HOUR DRIVE for the Rebels. The crowd will be hyped and the Pirates have some GREAT players and program.

This Rebels team is LOADED with skill kids that would start on any other team in KY. Two of them have multiple D1 Power 5 offers and are dominant on both sides of the ball. The QB is deadly accurate and runs the offense/team to perfection.

The Rebels defense swarms to the ball. The DL is really good and the linebackers are aggressive and hit hard. The CB/S are FAST and are hard to throw against (held Beau Allen to 9-29 and only 99 yards in a 40-14 win @ LexCath). The OL is improving with every game and the RBs (3) can all hit the holes and move the chains. We have at least 5 kids that are sub 4.5 40 yard dash with one of them 4.39.

Coach Smith is a legend and is the one coach in the KHSAA that compares to Haywood. Neither side will get "outcoached" and it'll be fun to see them match wits for the one and only time in their careers (BCHS moves to 4A next year).

The junior class in middle school went 23-0 and absolutely dominated their schedule in those two years. BCMS did not participate in the middle school state tourney back then and have heard about Belfry winning the title in their class. I know for a fact that BCHS 2020 class is prepared to see how they stack up against the Pirates and have been chomping at the bit for several years for the opportunity.

This game will be a lot of fun for me. I've been looking forward to playing at Pond Creek since I can remember. I have a lot of respect for the Belfry Program and can't wait for the game, the atmosphere and the opportunity.

I hope the Bentley kid isn't hurt too bad and can play, **** I wish both teams were completely healthy, but that ain't the case.

I'll say:

Boyle Co - 38
Belfry - 21

As a JC fan I think Belfry should take their exact offensive game plan from the JC game and use it again. They showed in that game they could go down the field on 20 play drives that took 8-10 minutes off of the clock. Their best defense considering how banged up they are is to keep Boyle’s offense off of the field. They need to limit possessions, frustrate Boyle’s offense and wear Boyle’s defense down. To me that is their best chance not a shootout like what they did against Lex Cath.

They will more than likely be frustrated "by" the Boyle offense. Too much speed.

Can’t really argue with anything FoSho and Jack Lambert predict and Mister D you are correct. That would be the blueprint for Belfry hanging in there. However, it’s like my Glock 23 I keep in the drawer by our bed. It’s real nice and it has a lot of firepower in that 15 round clip. Boyle has the same model but has 3 other clips loaded and ready to go.

Logistics question. Which way will Boyle travel to the game?

I know you’re entitled to your opinion and I respect that, but Boyle’s offense is better than Catholic’s IMO a lot better.

Boyle’s D could hold Belfry to 18....Belfry’s D can’t hold Boyle to just 20. Just my 2 cents.

IMO Belfry’s best defense will be their offense, will they be able to have long sustained drives To keep Boyle’s offense off the field?

I got to be real just like one of the other guys said the only chance Belfry has is long time consuming drives just keep Boyle’s offense off the field we are capable of doing that but you know how games go sometimes with that being said GO BIG RED #55

Belfry by 7 at home. Lawrence rolled up a lot of yards against Boyle on the ground despite being one of the most one dimensional teams in the state and Belfry can run it just as well plus can throw. I also feel that Belfry is smart enough to not give Boyle wr’s free releases to simply outrun their corners down the field. This should be an epic game between two great teams!

It’s still to early for me to make a prediction, I appreciate both clubs success and there fan base. I will wait till injury reports are discussed, and hope Bentley is able to return.

Boyle's D has given up rushing yards several times this year. I think this will be closer than many think. I like Boyle's O against the Belfry D but I think Belfry O will gain quite a bit on the ground. I like Boyle to win as long as they don't turn it over much but it will be tough !!!!

I agree with you. One thing I will say about the free releases in the game last night is that on the 93 yard passing play, the safeties were clearly out of position. I saw several coaches yelling for them to cover over the top on that play, and our safeties were about 5 yards off the ball. As for the rest of that game, LC simply doesn’t have the guys that can match up to stop Boyle. They simply could not guard every weapon on every play. Belfry does not have that problem. I think Belfry take this one

Nice analogy. We all know this game could go either way, and I'm not even in the mood to talk trash about Belfry yet. Maybe later. lol

There is literally nothing your DBs could have done last night to stop our passing game. If we had wanted to score more we could have.

Your offense is as gimmicky and one deminsional as I've ever seen. All you did was run through the same gap every time. You were bound to make yardage of which most was inconsequential.

How many 3 and outs did you have? Quite a few. Our D played just fine. We are stoudt in the red zone and are very opportunistic. We got some dudes waiting on the Belfry QB to throw the ball and one of them didn't play last night.

That’s kind of the thing I’m talking about. If ya can’t match up with the speed of Boyle’s receivers then you have to try to jam them to slow their routes and buy the pass rush a lil more time. As far as safety help, it’s not much help at all if they are up closer to the los because they got burnt also. Belfry and Western hills did the same. The Pirates have to be physical and not allow Boyle to just run freely. They are too fast for that.
