Default SIZE! How much does it REALLY matter?
Been seeing a lot of talk about how big peoples teams are. Just wandering what everyone else thought about the size issues.

Yes, I do think that size can be an issue if the BIG boys have talent. But, it doesn't matter if the entire team is 6'5" to 7'1", if they don't have the talent, knowledge of the game or coaching they're useless.

Just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts.

I agree with you here. I think size does matter if the big boys have talent... but if they don't, it means nothing. I can think of a couple of "BIG" players in Sheldon Clark's past basketball teams that weren't any good, just big. If you don't have talent, IMO it doesn't do you any good to play.

Also, look at the pros.. Shawn Bradley for example...

You can't teach height, you can teach someone how to shoot, pass, and dribble, but you cannot make someone grow, so yes size does matter.

In a sport like basketball, yea size defenitley helps! Players with size AND talent have a HUGE advantage over smaller players!

When I was a freshman in high school, we had a foriegn exchange student from China, and he was itty bitty, I don't even know if he was 5'5'' but he was fast, and he started, he had one of the highest shooting percentages that year. I do think that size helps, if you have several tall ppl on a team that are able to block shots, but all in all, I think you can be just as good and even better than tall players if you are shorter and determined.

Guys, let's just face it, size matters, lol. Large D-1 schools just don't really seem to look at short players usually unless they can dunk very well or are just freakishly athletic. If it were up to me, I'd rather have players with heart and a little bit of skill than just all size.

Sometimes size can just intimidate the other team...But if they aint got nething to back it up, wat good are they? Spud Webb could play and he was just like 5 5 or something.

I'll agree with that, you can't teach size. But you cannot always teach someone with size how to play basketball(i.e. Shagari Alleyne, Orbzut)

i think that id rather have a team that runs the ball as a team that has a million turnovers due to clumsiness of a lot of large men. We all know that when you are freakishly tall, 90% of the time they are uncoordinated at this age due to adjusting to the growth. Im not saying i wouldnt want any big men at all though, they are very useful down low when you wanna crash the boards and pull down alotta rebounds.

yes panther thunder you do have a point, but obviously a big man can block out a smaller player with little effort if he is big enough. then that leads to getting more rebounds. id rather have a fundamentally gifted small guy as a huge guy though.

Yea, how many rondos are there in high school basketball though. Exactly, some players are just so athletic, they dont need size. But good team size is usually better than no team size.

Overall, not just in a particular game for instance, size does make a difference. You can play with speed and heart and it can take you a long way sometimes. But you can't consistently win against big and talented teams unless you have size too.
