It was humble pie night at David Cecil Memorial Stadium. The Birds have finally come back to earth.

I thought I was hearing things when they mentioned the score tonight at the Camels/CCH game and I went to a game thread to see it was a legit 28-7 score. Wow, what a massive comeback for the Birds! Congrats on WAKING up when it was needed!

what a different 2nd half, coaching means so much and Boyle coaches got it handed to them in the 2nd! HHS beats many teams on coaching and not talent a lot of times. This Highlands team is not the team of the last 5 years and I know I will be making a lot of people mad, but not that impressed with Boyle. Boyle is big but not in great shape and a lot going both ways (completely gassed in second half). They had good power running game and poor passing game. After tonight, I think the two catholic schools are licking their chops!

Another comeback. It seems as if Boyle County got gassed.

I thought Boyle County was going to win this one, especially with the early lead they had.

Sounds like both teams have a lot of work to do on defense.

I'm not sure I see your point. The Birds won by a 3 touchdown margin, and that is coming down to earth?

Boyle played a great first half, but as I reminded a few fans around me, Highlands is very good at making halftime adjustments, which they clearly did. Secondly, if you are going to win at Highlands, you aren't going to win a half and call it a night, but you are going to have to win all 4 quarters. In addition to playing both ways, several of the Boyle players also played special teams, and once they lost the lead, you could see the physical toll on some.

As for the defensive struggles in the first half, this type of running game always gives us fits. We don't see it a lot around here, which makes it tough to get good defending. Offense didn't look bad in the first half, but with Boyle scoring on every possession, we dug a hole we had to climb out of. The D in the first half didn't look aggressive, but that changed in the second half. A few big stops and turnovers really got them fired up, and you could see the change.

All in all, it was a good test for Highlands. Plenty of good things to build on on both sides of the ball. On to Scott County!

It seems Boyle has alot of players going both ways for a top level program, and Highlands depth wore the Rebels out.

Highlands really only allowed Boyle to score in the 1st half but shut them out in the 2nd. Boyle did score in the very last few minutes of the game however it was against Highlands JV team.

Highlands will only get better as they try and figure out their players. They are pretty young right now which could spell trouble for the rest of the state for the next several years.

Great coaching adjustments at half as usual!
You are right on about the running style always hurting the Birds, just ask JC how they have been able to compete so good against them! The Birds are built for speed and not the power game. When Boyle spread their offense in the second half, it was playing to HHS strength.
Once HHS took the lead early in the second half, you could see the Boyle players lower their heads and shoulders, I think they gave up and where gassed.
Some poor punts also gave Boyle excellent field position in the first half and they did not have that in the second. The punting and kick offs have to get better! Right now HHS is beatable, but I see room for a lot of improvement and they could be real tough come playoffs. However, I think Scott Co hangs a lose on them next week, they have the talent and depth to do it.

Big game from both teams perspective to make a statement. From the updates it seems that turnovers and adjustments lead the bluebirds to a victory.

I thought Boyle's qb did an admirable job passing last night. His receivers dropped at least 3 passes that would have easily gone for td's. Boyle could do no wrong in the first half and the psychological toll from last weeks beat down obviously had the defense questioning themselves. Also, once Boyle's #18 left the game in the beginning of the second, they changed the package and it hurt them. Bottom line: Highlands looked extremely vulnerable on defense, they need to keep it more on the ground and they'll be fine. Defense needs to act like they've been there before as well. On one play the guy is celebrating sacking the qb instead of going after the fumbled ball. However, after last weeks showing, I can understand their "green" enthusiasm. Biggest turnaround I've ever seen in a half. Go Birds.

When the last time you heard a Freshmen playing varsity at Highlands? Congrats #35 for his kicking in the second half. I heard that night the main guy was hurt. Great hang time in the second half, help set up the defense. The turnovers really helped bring life back in the D.

Having a kicker who put it high and deep was a factor that can't be underestimated. He should punt too

Kicking was SO much better in the second half, it was a big factor.

#18 was a great player, but did play like a punk much of the game,he should let his game do the talking and stop all the crap after the whistle.

I said the same thing last night about needing to keep it on the ground more, the passing game is just not there yet to depend on it. I know HHS likes the quick strike score, but you have to play your strength.

It was a huge 2nd half turnaround!

As long as Muller is on the sidelines at Highlands do not count out the Bluebirds. They may have come back to the pack some this year but until someone takes the crown Highlands is still king in my book (Trinity not included).

I don't see Boyle beating Highlands should both teams meet again. The depth of the Birds was the true killer last night. Boyle played a good half, but then again, it was only a half.

Nor do I. If they play later it will be in the playoffs and the final score will have Fort Thomas Highlands winning by more than 21 points.

Was anybody else surprised at how few fans Boyle had at the game. I thought a top program would have a better following.

The hassle, etc. with parking plus the long drive from Danville on a Friday night probably dissuaded a lot of Boyle fans. It was mentioned somewhere that if you got there by 5:30, you'd only have a 10 minute walk. People getting off work in Danville at 5:00 were only going to get there around game time, and I assumed that meant parking somewhere around Dry Ridge. I know that's one of the reasons I didn't go.

Don't always believe everything you hear. I got there at 7pm and had a 2minute walk from my car. I also got a nice seat at the 40 on the Highlands side. A real fan would have been there.

Tractors are not allowed on the interstate. All kidding aside. I think the fans were just at work, but you would think with a powerhouse program like that, they would travel regardless where the game is played. I know they traveled well when they played Lafayette and Lex Cath, but then again the tractors don't have to travel through the interstate, just KY 27 or 168.

It's only 45 minutes from Danville to Lafayette or Lexington Catholic. That's pretty doable on a Friday after work.

Google Maps has it at almost 2.5 hours from Danville to Ft. Thomas. Pair that with the horrible parking if you get there on time or late, and it makes it tough to make that trip.
