The voters got it wrong....

Timmy Dalton from Lawrence County is your Mr. Basketball. He didn't win the actual award, but he was the best player in the state.

Hollingsworth shouldn't even get his team out of the district!

Hollingsworth won the award after his state tournament last year. Beat Mercer County almost by himself (what a great performance). Struggled to get out of a loaded district in Lexington is a little different than getting out in the mountains. Dalton was an outstanding player (awesome that he led the nation in scoring), but Hollingsworth was Mr. Basketball in my book with Dalton in second. Dalton has been slept on way too much during his career. Someone at the next level is getting a steal

Dalton is a very good player, the kid from pikeville maybe the best the 15th had this year. But they got it right for Mr. Basketball.

They definitely got this award right. He is by far the best Senior player in Kentucky and deserved this award. If you think Dalton deserves it then you need to get outta EKY and see more basketball.

Dalton probably should not have been the winner, but he was without question POY out of the 15th and had to be 2nd to Hollingsworth for Mr. Basketball.

Here's some numbers for you:

Hollingsworth
2017 - 850 total points, 28.3 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game. Lost to Lexington Christian first round of 43rd district tournament.

Dalton
2017 - 1244 total points, 37.7 points per game (Nations leader), 11.1 rebounds per game. Lost to Johnson Central in 2nd round of 15th region tournament.

Scored 20+ in every game except 1 and that was against Phelps when he had 17 assists. Scored 30+ and pulled down 10+ rebounds in almost every game.

Dalton is a great player in and outside of EKY... period.

Dalton dont get those number playing with kids as good or better than he is................... Those are not apples to apples when comparing what Daulton faced vs what Hollingsworth went at each night. Dauton had a great year while playing in a very average at best 15th region.

Daulton played with Hollingsworth for the past 2 summers and Hollingsworth was Matts Mustang best player with Daulton & Blair both on it.

^ No doubt, competition isn't the same. I wasn't trying to say that by any means.

Tim's a good player, whether it is in EKY or Lexington. He plays on MATTS Mustang and is one of their best players, period. Tim and Hollingsworth are their leading scorers.

Dalton would start for any team in the state and would still put up 20+ a game. He doesn't just score, he rebounds too. Averaged a double-double and had numerous triple-double's. I don't care who the competition was, they lost 12 games and he still put up those numbers. He didn't make the schedule.

Timmy Dalton had the same problem as Creech did. They get less respect because they played in Eastern,Ky..I hate it, we all hate it but its the truth. Hes a great player and Ive no doubt would average 25 points a night anywhere in the state. Hes a great player and by all accounts Ive heard a good kid. I wish him luck.

You all acting like nobody from EKY has ever won the award, but they have. If he was the best player in the state he'd have won. He isn't. He didn't. Congrats to Hollingsworth. Best player in the state. Period.

First of all i am not saying he wouldn't start for any team, but I dont think he averages 20 on one of the better teams in the state and there are alot of reason for that. He wouldnt have the green light like he did at LC. He didnt average 20 on his team last year that was full of good players (18.6).

He didn't have to average 20+ a game last year, but he could have. A kid as versatile as him that can shoot from anywhere, in sure he would have the green light, Hollingsworth apparently did.

I've seen Timmy play many times and yes he can shoot from anywhere, that dont mean he makes them from anywhere with regularity. Hollingsworth is totally different player. Hollingsworth might have better numbers last year on a complete team.

I think level of competition played a factor in this decision as it very well should.

Hollingsworth is the first Mr. Basketball that didn't make it out of their respective district tournament since Steffphon Pettigrew in 2007, who also went to WKU.

Hollingsworth's dad played with Charles Thomas at Harlan who was a Mr Basketball from eastern KY. Next year's possible favorite for the award will be from Corbin which is also eastern KY.

^ I remember watching Charles Thomas at the state tournament in 1995. He was a heck of a player.

Hollingsworth was MVP of the sweet 16 last year and came out and backed it up this year. There was nothing anyone could do unless he stumbled.

Hollingsworth played against Scott County, Lexington Catholic, Lexington Christian, Ballard, Doss, Cooper, Covington Catholic etc.. That's the big difference.

^ As I said, Dalton should not have been the winner, but for people to get on here and discredit him every chance they get is a bit much. Anyone that has a clue knows that the competition level from EKY vs. Lexington/Louisville isn't even close.

Congrats to Hollingsworth, he IS Kentucky Mr. Basketball.

His dad graduated in 90. Charles went to Harlan the next school year. They never played together in high school, I don't think.
