Default Lake Erie 45 Kentucky Wesleyan 27
OWENSBORO, Ky. After a combined five touchdowns in the first quarter of play, the Kentucky Wesleyan College football team gave up 28 unanswered points, suffering a 45-27 loss to Lake Eric College on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers move to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference while the Storm improve to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

The Panthers put up a pair of touchdowns in the first eight minutes of play to jump out to a 14-0 lead. A short four-yard pass from Mike McGee to Corey Johnson put the Panthers on the board on the first possession of the game. After the defense forced a three-and-out on the Storm's first possession, McGee found Ladarrius Dunn for a 32-yard touchdown reception. Both extra point attempts were good from Chris Logsdon.

Lake Erie scored 28 unanswered points to take a 28-14 lead with over 12 minutes remaining in the second quarter. Facing fourth and long in their own red zone, the Storm elected to punt. Trey Waltermire came up big with a blocked punt that was picked up by Martavius Carter and returned two-yards for a touchdown. Logsdon nailed the extra point to put the Panthers within seven.

Two plays later, James Todd forced a Lake Erie fumble at the 35-yard line. Justin Nichols recovered the loose ball and returned it 16-yards to put the Panthers in the Lake Erie red zone. McGee connected with Waltermire for a gain of 12 and then a 13-yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was wide left but the Panthers cut their deficit to one point at the half.

The momentum shifted towards the Storms favor to open the second half as Lake Erie scored two touchdowns in less than three minutes to take a commanding 42-27 lead. The Storm tacked on a field goal in the final quarter to take the game 45-27.

McGee finished with 253-yards on 22 completions including three touchdowns. Jared Beard and Dunn were even with 73-yards off of five and four receptions respectively.

Malcolm Johnson led the Panther defense with 10 tackles, seven of which were solo, including 2.5 for a loss of seven yards. Peyton Marskbury tabbed nine tackles, six solo, 2.5 tackles for a loss of 11-yards plus one sack for a loss of six-yards.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, November 4th as they head to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Panthers of Ohio Dominican University with kick off set for 11 am CT.
