It's hard to win at Dunbar when you just don't have the resources to compete with the other big Lexington schools. Not saying Dunbar doesn't have any athletes because they do, just not enough to compete with LexCath, LCA, Henry Clay, Tates Creek and really anyone else in 6A for that matter.

I suspect that the new coach probably won't be there 2-3 years down the road.

Other than maybe Tates Creek, doesn't Dunbar probably have the highest median household income of kids that go to school in Fayette county? Unless I'm confused I though Dunbar, being where it is would be set up quite well for success.

Not what I was going for, but I assumed from a financial standpoint, they should have little trouble finding the financial means to succeed.
I'm not sure about now since the new high school opened but wasn't Dunbar only second to Scott county in terms of biggest public school enrollment numbers in the state?

My friend from high school is an ear, nose, throat, specialist in Lexington. He sends his kids to Dunbar. I would assume he has the resources to send them anywhere, but he chose Dunbar for some reason. They only play golf though.

So, what has happened over the last 13-15 years? I mean, they had a run in the early 2000's where they had some great teams?

Is the talent gone or is the coaching gone?

There is a PC way to call someone spoiled? I would like to announce as a corbin fan I am officially offended after this has been brought to light!!

I donít think itís money with Dunbar. I donít know why it is other than maybe commitment by the administration?? I dunno??

if a coach took this job found a way to draw enough kids to improve a few wins per season it could springboard them to a higher job in the future

Mullins and company could have easily pulled a few wins maybe if the Fredrick Douglas wasn't in the picture. They had several players transfer schools. Hate to see a good young hard working coach leave out so early. Best of luck to Mullins.....

From what I heard at work today, they already have someone pegged for the job. Not sure if that is true, but you never know in these situations.

Feel bad for the guy, but I feel even worse for the kids.

Dunbar is more than capable of a competitive football team, the resources are definitely there, the school is also one of the largest in the state as well. The naysayers want to spread negativity and keep you down, but the excuses are simply excuses. Excuses have never helped accomplish goals. The culture is down but the right person who is dedicated can get this program back, is it going to be hard, absolutely , is this job for everyone, no. However, this could be a great job for someone wanting to make a name for themselves, expectations are low, any success will be appreciated and they will have time if they can slowly and methodically increase that success each year, they have a great facility , it's 6A football in Lexington, and there are people and parents waiting in the wings to fully support and help this program rise back. Golden opportunity for a person that's willing to work diligently, horrible one for a status quo guy.

Nothing against Dunbar and not putting them down nor the players but that school is a train wreck when it comes to football. They are 29-103 since 2006 season and have went through 6 coaching changes since then too. 05-07 David Hensley, 07-09 Jason Howell, 2010 Bob Lawson, 11-13 Derrick Thompson, 13-15 Paul Rains, 16-17 Chris Mullins. Dunbar has had 1 .500 season in 12 years and that was the 2013 team under Paul Rains that went 6-6. Also, Dunbar is on a 13 game losing streak and have lost 14 of their last 15 games. I think that Frederick Douglass being built is what hurt Dunbar because they had players to transfer to Douglass.

Once again, those are excuses, they can't win because other coaches haven't, they can't win because Frederick Douglass was built, it's not a football school, and so forth. What does the past have to do with today, right now? None of those are good reasons to assume it can't be done. It can, it just takes the right guy. Wallowing in pity, will not solve this situation. It's going to take innovation, perseverance, dedication, and leadership.

The point is, they haven't had a winning season since 2006. The reason they can't win may go a little deeper than just the coach....

If you've been married 5 times and divorced 5 times...maybe it'd you? Lol. There's something g going on there. Way too many coaches in the last decade for everything to be all peachy. Something deeper is there.

Rains was.a great coach at LCA who won a lot of football games. Lawson held several assistant positions and knew his stuff. Held several records at Whitley as a player and is the principal their now.
It's not the character of coach they're hiring. They've had good people in that position willing to do good things.
