Was last year the beginning of another state title run by the Rebels?

Yes

Every TD scored by the Rebels in the semifinals and finals was done so by a Sophomore. Leading tackler, one of the two best DT and QB were all sophomores.

Loaded at the skill positions for the foreseeable future.

OL/DL has some players but there are holes to fill no doubt.

Things look great for Boyle Co Football.

I think next year would've been the toughest row to hoe for Boyle but the khsaa took care of that for them. They still have to go on the road to belfry, but IF(and that's a big if) they win that game then it's up to the draw. I'm sure that will be favorable to them since they're close to lex and the ratings always favor the teams close to metro areas. Instead of having to come to Corbin in the semis, they'll most likely get to host a game. I'd say the most likely meeting for Corbin and Boyle would be in the finals.

I still think next season will be the tougher than last season because of the guys they lost up front. They'll be the sure fire favorite in 2019 though, I'm not sure many will be able to challenge that group when they are seniors.

I agree with most of this post but to be fair, Boyle was scheduled to be on the road for Regional/Semi State for the second straight year (maybe 3 in a row in the 2019 season) and all this does is enable the Rebels to earn the right to get a well deserved home game in the semi state.

Keep in mind that the OL was a HUGE concern this past season too especially after the horrible performance in the scrimmage vs a mediocre Madison Central team. The OL was terrible that day but after around week 3 (Danville) they turned it around and were awesome by seasons end. While I don't think they'll be as good as they were this past season, I am confident that they will be good enough to allow the skill kids to do what they do.

Chuck Smith won't be around forever but Boyle Co Football isn't going away any time soon.

They are the largest 3A in the new alignment. Any chance they go 4A? Wayne is supposedly moving up and Greenup moving down.

Great question. I actually have no idea.

In the past I heard "no" because Chuck wanting to avoid his son Brandon at South Warren but now they are 5A so who knows?!?!

Location and availability of District foes has something to do with it doesn't it?

I think they will definitely talk about it. I think it was in the discussions before the numbers were released.

Boyle was slated to have to come to Corbin if they had beaten belfry in the region championship. Now they'll definitely be ranked in the top two most likely number 1 which means they'll get to host the semi final game and play the worst team left. My guess is that if Boyle and Corbin meet next season it will be in the championship game again.

If they are helping anyone it would have been Corbin. They may make it back to the finals. If it had been same , they were packing it in. Hatz, hard to wrap your mind around a Corbin fan. This wrinkle only helps Corbin, they can skate playing Belfry and Boyle.

Corbin doesn't want to skate playing Belfry and Boyle. The only thing that changes for Corbin is who they'll be playing, unless they drop a few games. Then they will be going on the road. Bell county is the one who is running away from people.

You seem to think it helps Boyle but the scenario you discribed actually helps Corbin much more. Corbin could make it back without playing Belfry, Boyle and possibly Central. But you say Boyle gets help? Same with the 2019 schedule of Belfry? Looks like the pot calling the kettle? Sad.

Okay, lets break this down logically. If Boyle and Corbin both have the seasons they expect, they'll most likely be ranked numbers one and two respectively. Lets look at the games if Corbin was ranked one and Boyle was ranked two.

Boyle goes from playing at the number 1 to playing the number three team at home. While Corbin goes from playing the number two team at home to playing the number four team at home.

If Boyle is 1 and Corbin is 2 then Boyle goes from playing at the number two team to playing the number four team at home while Corbin goes from playing the number one team at home to playing the number three team at home. In either situation I think both Corbin and Boyle benefit, but Boyle benefits more.

I would like to clarify that I in no way think that "helping Boyle county" was the reason this move was made. I think the primary reason this move was made was because of money gained from the championship weekend by the khsaa. The bottom line is that the best team will win the state title next year just like they do every year. I just don't like the last two changes the khsaa has made to the playoffs. Stating that a team benefitted from those changes doesn't mean I think there is some kind of conspiracy going on.

I completely understand, you seem to think that Corbin would come out of the semi if they played Boyle. That is why Corbin benefits more, if the had to play Boyle they would not make the title game. I see making it more of a benefit. So Corbin would be helped more if that happened. I see Corbin ranked 4th and that may not help. Either way , we will see. Make no mistake if Boyle is 1 and Corbin 2 or 3 it is a blessing for Corbin.

You're obviously seeing it through bell county tinted glasses too. I think Corbin most definitely could've beat Boyle at home just like I think they could beat Boyle in the championship. I think Corbin has as good a chance as anybody to win the state title next season. Here is a secret, Boyle, belfry, central, etown and any other team that is in the chase feels the same way. Keep on hatin buddy. You all at bell only have to take one or two more butt whippings then you all can run off with your tails between your legs like you are this year in JV and freshman.

As the defending state champion after a dominating win, If I was a Corbin fan I would want to avoid Boyle too. In saying that, Corbin has a better chance of beating Boyle @ home on grass than @ Boyle or @ UK vs Boyle (on turf).

But I believe the seeding system rewards the best teams AND practically guarantees the best finals matchup possible.

As far as who would win the championship, I'm sure the top teams DO INDEED believe they'd win the title. But based upon last years results and returning talent, Boyle deserves the preseason #1 ranking and will have it imo. And since Boyle's roster is loaded but their schedule has lots of teams trending down I feel good about holding that spot all season.

Can't wait for the season!

Thanks for clarification. I would add though that Boyle was on the road in the semi-finals last year at E-town.

When you get to the semi-finals home field is great but not that great.

Doing some digging, historically speaking Boyle has appeared in 11 State Semi-final games in their history. They have won 9 of them.

4 of those contests were at home and 7 on the road.

Rebels have won 5 of the 7 on the road. And those wins were at Hoptown, Tighlman, Bell and Prestonsburg.

That said it's pretty premature thinking Boyle or Corbin or Belfry or whoever is an automatic for the semi-finals. But it does make for fun discussion.

I don't think anyone is actually counting their chickens but for heavens sake it's a fan forum and that's what it's for. Besides if you aren't confident about your team it sure is boring.

Btw, great research on the BCHS playoffs. Home field seems to be a state of mind for the Rebels!

If Boyle decides to playup I hope as soon as that decision is made they call Belfry and schedule a game for 2019

Me too but I don't anticipate Boyle Co deciding to play up, time will tell.

I feel certain if Boyle stays in 3A that we'll see a Belfry vs Boyle Co game more than once over the next several years.

Several other 4A's nearby/ border counties. Would probably be better fit geographically in 4A.

This coming years junior and senior classes will be absolutely loaded so other than the kicker I donít see any of the freshman or sophomores getting much playing time.

I don’t see much varsity time for any of them unless one of them is a stud lineman. The kicker will get all the action he wants. Of course this is just my opinion I’ve been wrong before.
