ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF banked in a three ahead of the buzzer to force overtime, but No. 11/11 Wichita State survived with a 75-71 victory Thursday evening at CFE Arena.

WSU (24-5, 14-3 American) hosts No. 10/10 Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon in its regular season finale. A win over the Bearcats would give the Shockers a share of the American Athletic Conference title and the No. 1 seed in next week's conference tournament.

Shaquille Morris led WSU with 19 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Conner Frankamp scored 11 of his 16 points after halftime, and Landry Shamet added 14 points and six assists with just one turnover. Rashard Kelly scored seven points and nine rebounds. Austin Reaves scored just three points but handed out five assists without a turnover.

A.J. Davis was the hero for UCF with 31 points and 14 rebounds in 43 minutes. He hit 6-of-9 threes, including an answered prayer at the end of regulation. B.J. Taylor tacked on 23 points with five assists.

Down 66-63 with 17 seconds to play, UCF's B.J. Taylor missed a game-tying three, but the rebound trickled through several Shocker hands to Davis on the perimeter. The senior's desperation heave from the right wing glanced off the backboard and through, tying the game with 0.7 seconds showing on the game clock.

WSU regrouped to outscore UCF 9-5 in the five-minute overtime period.

Gayon Griffin put UCF ahead 69-68 on a three-pointer with 1:59 to play.

Frankamp answered immediately with a short jumper. Davis missed two free throws for UCF that would have put the Knights ahead.

Darral Willis Jr. – who played just three minutes in the first half -- made them pay with a short turnaround jumper that stretched the advantage to 72-69 with 28 seconds to go.

Taylor's driving layup struck the bottom of the rim and bounced to Shamet, who hit both ends of a one-and-one to stretch the lead to 74-69.

A quick basket got the Knights to within three with under 10 seconds to play, but Reaves converted a free throw to make it a two-possession game.

WSU finished with 20 assists on 31 baskets while committing just seven turnovers. The Shockers outrebounded the Knights 42-35 and outscored them in the paint 38-22.

The Shockers shot 47 percent but hit just 6-of-21 threes (tying their second-lowest output of the year from deep).

UCF shot 41.1 percent and outscored WSU at the line 15-7.
First Half:

Shamet connected twice from beyond the arc in the first five minutes to stake an 11-8 lead, but UCF hit its next five shots to key a 14-0 run. An A.J. Davis three-pointer gave the Knights a 22-11 advantage at the 12:22-mark.

After a 9-for-12 start, UCF missed 12-of-13 to close out the half.

The Shockers wasted little time closing the gap, scoring the next eight points over a span of less than three minutes. Markis McDuffie drove for a three-point play, Frankamp nailed a triple and Nurger added a tip-in to pull WSU to within 22-19.

After the teams traded baskets, Zach Brown stripped Taylor and dunked in transition. Two trips later, Morris hit a midrange jumper to put the Shockers in front, 25-24, near the 5:00-mark.

Kelly hit his first three of the year then converted a layup off a slick feed from Morris on the perimeter. Frankamp converted one of his own off a Shamet pass to cap 9-0 Shocker run that made it 34-25 with just under 2:00 to play in the half.

UCF endured the final 7:49 of the half without a field goal, and WSU went into the locker room with a 36-29 advantage. Morris (9 points), Shamet (8) and Kelly (7) did the bulk of the damage.

The Shockers converted 13 points off six Knight turnovers.

Second Half:

UCF regained its shooting touch early in the second half, opening with an 11-2 push. Davis' steal and stuff gave the Knights the lead back.

Chad Brown dunked and Taylor drained a three to make it a 45-40 UCF lead with 15:46 to go.

The Shockers silenced the crowd with consecutive hoops. A driving Frankamp found McDuffie for a lay-in, and Shamet caught the defense napping with a quick burst into the lane for a dunk.

UCF's Davis banked a three for a 49-44 margin near the 13:00-mark.

Morris made a highlight reel play with a two-handed tip slam on Shamet's missed three. Frankamp followed with three-straight baskets -- a 15-footer in transition, a driving runner, and another jumper from the top of the keyhole – to cap an 8-0 spurt, and the Shockers led 52-49 with 10:00 to play.

Frankamp added a three-pointer -- his fourth basket in less than three minutes—to stretch the lead to 55-51 at the under 8:00 timeout.

Willis extended the margin to six with a three-point play. Taylor answered with a three. Willis countered with a turnaround jumper.

Morris scored the next four points – the last on a lob from Willis – to put the Shockers in front, 64-55 at the 4:00-mark.

Taylor kept UCF in range with his third three of the half to cut the margin to 64-58.

WSU came up empty on four straight possessions, and UCF capitalized with two free throws and a clutch three from Davis that pulled the hosts to with 64-63 with 1:09 on the clock.

WSU answered with a textbook possession, working the ball inside off great ball movement when a driving Shamet threaded to Morris for a lay-in.

Dayon Griffin's corner three missed for UCF with 17 seconds to go, and the ball trickled out of bounds to the Shockers.

A quick foul sent McDuffie to the line, but the junior missed the front-end of a one-and-one. Taylor's guarded three missed the mark, but the loose ball caromed to Davis who banked in a circus three with 0.7 seconds on the clock to send the game to overtime, knotted a 66.

Overtime:

Neither team scored for the first two minutes of overtime.

Morris scored inside for WSU. Gayon Griffin put UCF ahead 69-68 on a three-pointer with 1:59 to play.

Frankamp answered immediately with a short jumper. Davis missed two free throws for UCF that would have put the Knights ahead. Willis made them pay with a short turnaround jumper that stretched the advantage to 72-69 with 28 seconds to go.

UCF took a full timeout to strategize.

Taylor drove but Brown and Morris hounded him, and the UCF guard's layup struck the bottom of the rim and bounced to Shamet.

UCF fouled Shamet with 19 seconds on the clock, but the sophomore hit both ends of a one-and-one to stretch the lead to 74-69.

Taylor attacked quickly and scored on a layup with 10.5 seconds showing to cut the gap to 74-71.

UCF fouled Reaves with 9.3 seconds left, but Reaves converted the first of two freebies to make it a two possession game.
