Default South Florida 75 Memphis 51
MEMPHIS, Tenn. Two streaks came to an end Thursday night at FedExForum.

Unfortunately for the University of Memphis, the Tigers saw their four-game winning streak end as USF relied on its long-range shooting and dominance on the boards in a 75-51 American Athletic Conference victory. With the win, the Bulls snapped their eight-game losing streak.

Kyvon Davenport led the Tigers (18-12, 9-8 American) with 17 points and 10 rebounds for his team-leading seventh double-double of the season. Jimario Rivers added 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

USF (9-21, 2-15 American) placed four players in double figures led by Payton Banks and Malik Martin, who finished with 19 points each. Isaiah Manderson had a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) for the Bulls, who won for the second time in 17 games and for the first time since Jan. 25 at Tulane.

"They were just better than we were in every facet of the game," said Tiger coach Tubby Smith. "They came with a lot of fight and we didn't respond."

Memphis fell behind by as many as 16 points late in the first half as USF connected repeatedly from long range. Two 3-pointers in the final minute of the opening half gave USF a 45-23 halftime lead. Banks had four 3-pointers in the first half.

The Bulls, who shot 53.8 percent (14-of-26) in the first half and 50 percent for the game, didn't allow the Tigers an opportunity to make a second-half run. The Tigers briefly cut the lead to 19 (51-32) on a strong inside move by Davenport, but USF moved ahead by 27 (65-38) six minutes later.

Memphis never recovered.

"We just had a bump in the road," Rivers said. "And we couldn't come up with enough stops defensively."

The Tigers shot 38.7 percent in the second half and 39.2 percent for the game. They were outrebounded 38-27, including 22-12 in the second half. Memphis never led in the game.

"I'm really, really disappointed in us," Smith said. "We weren't ready physically or mentally. But I have to give them a lot of credit. They certainly came with some fight. And when a team senses you don't respect them they are going to play and they are going to play hard."

The Tigers finish the regular season at 2 p.m. Sunday at FedExForum against ECU. It will be Senior Day for the U of M and starting forward Jimario Rivers will be honored along with Alex Moffett, a reserve forward.

+ Memphis can still clinch the No. 5 seed in next week's American Athletic Conference tournament in Orlando by defeating ECU Sunday. The game tips off at 2 p.m. at FedExForum.

+ The Tigers had made 21 of 41 3-pointers in their past two games, but were unable to continue the success from long range. Memphis finished 3-of-19 Thursday.

+ The Tigers fell to 13-5 at home with the loss. Two of those losses have come to nationally ranked opposition (Cincinnati and Wichita State).

+ Memphis had a disappointing combination of shooting percentages. The Tigers shot 39.2 percent (their fourth-lowest at home this season), their second-lowest 3-point percentage (15.8) and their lowest free throw percentage (44.4).
