Dixie Heights High School senior varsity wrestler Charley Cornett was selected to represent Kentucky on the USA Wrestling Team at the Down Under Sports Tournaments in Australia July 2-10, 2012.
Cornett has been wrestling since seventh grade and is co-captain of Dixieâs 2011-12 team.
The USA team will visit Brisbane and Sydney, Australia, to compete on the Gold Coast and will stop in Hawaii for a competition on the way back. He was chosen by Down Under Sports based on his qualification and performance at the 2011 Kentucky State Championship where he finished in the top 12.
To participate he will need to raise about $5,000 to cover the cost of travel expenses and accommodations.
For all contributions received in his honor to International Sports Specialist Inc. (ISSI) a scholarship fund will match Charley 25 percent, up to $2,000.
Donations are to be made directly to ISSI and mailed with the sponsorship form. To receive a sponsorship form through the mail, contact Angie Lewis at 859-801-9063 or donate directly online at http://www.downundersports.com, click sponsor payment and mark it for Charley Cornett for wrestling.
Sponsorships of $20 or more will qualify supporters for prizes. The first drawing will be for two all-expense paid tickets to the 2012 Down Under Sports Competition in Australia and Hawaii. The second drawing will be a five-day Caribbean Cruise for two. To be entered into both drawings, entries must be received by ISSI no later than 5 p.m. MST on June 1, 2012.
