Paintsville 57 - Lawrence County 49
#1
Final
#2
Interesting how the PA announcer speaks about sportsmanship at the beginning of the game and they place the student section right behind the Paintsville bench. The players had to listen to the student section cursing them the whole game. A Lawrence County fan had to be removed from the gym for coming onto the floor in his wheelchair and berating the ref.

On behalf of LC I apologize that the players were harassed by the student section. I for one think that the students should be behind the home bench...

I appreciate that. One of the girls was actually hit in the head with a sign. Wasn't malicious or anything like that, but that just shows how close they are to the players.

Very sorry that happened. It has been discussed at length about moving them. Many of the students act properly for the most part and do nothing other than dress up and make noise. Unfortunately, there are those who cannot act like a young adult should and ruin it for everyone else. I'm pretty sure I know exactly who it was without being there.

Congrats Paintsville.

They did get a little wild. The Lady Tigers had to move their bench seats out onto the floor during TOs and after quarters. Coach Baldwin and his team showed a lot of class by keeping quiet and concentrating on the game for the win. GREAT Job Lady Tigers!

Jones - 17 pts (5-3s)
Vanhoose - 16 pts couple 3s herself.

Porter (LC) - 26 pts

Great Game and atmosphere though to get you ready for Magoffin Co. Friday night. Go get'em Lady Tigers!

A good district win for the Lady Tigers on the road and Megan Jones has a big night.

I graduated from LC in the 80's this is the same place the student section has always been in the same location. The most embarrassing thing I saw and I agree the refs let everything get out of control, was a Paintsville lady fan about 45 years old "flipping off the student section"... embarassing. At least the kids are probably 18 and under.

^Well, Your hearing must be completely gone and you must be the ONLY person in the gym like this. So you didn't see all the crap that was thrown on the floor by them and the annoucement that soon followed. So you saw a bird. If you daughter had to listen to, S**T, D**N, F*g*T, T*Ts, H**L, F**K and P**S all night long and be hit in the head while sitting on the bench. You prolly woulda flipped a couple of birds. No excuse for that kinda verbal abuse that close. They were waaay to close.

Lawrence County was like that in 2009 as well. We played a game down there and they same type things happened. In addition to the cursing, the students were throwing Skittles at the players. A parent went and got the AD, and he really took charge; brought a chair over there, opened up his magazine and continued to read. The students never acknowledged his presence.

Which school are you from? I'm pretty sure I know which game you are referring to since I worked most of the games then.

It all comes down to one thing. ADMINISTRATION, If the Lawrence County Administration allows something like this they are asking for trouble. One thing I can say, is the Paintsville Administration would not allow their student section to be so close to an opponets bench. Lawrence County had a bunch of boys behind the girls bench. At a boys game you are inviting players to come off the bench and into the stands. I was told that the man that was escorted out of the gym is married to a school board member. If there is any truth to that, then that may explain a lot.

Congrats to Paintsville. Good team, I saw them the other night when they beat Pikeville. Going to be a tough out in the region later.

I cant believe the carol girl's mom cursing the LC players during the game. She should have been put out. she better learn to watch her mouth when addressing a MINOR.

I dont Know about the kids cursing the players, but I do know about the carol girls mom cursing the LC girls while in bounding the ball and the guy beside her trying to control her. And then she stood up cursing the LC players and the REF's. And yes the guy in the wheel chair does that every game, but he was arguing with the refs, not the other teams kids or there parents. He has that right, its called freedom of speech. But obviously he started threatening and he was removed, and thats what should happen when someones out of control. The carol woman should have went with him. Congrats to PHS, good hard played game.

I heard paintsville was ranked 2nd in the region. If so I liked how our girls played against them. The student section for LC was out of hand but that's LCs sports for ya. We go hard. But the guy that got escorted out was completely out of hand they shouldn't allow him around the refs or on the floor at all. But LC will give you a run for your money

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH.....Carroll's mother is a very vocal person and supports her daughter and team. I have known her for MANY years and have sat near her for many games and NEVER have I heard her curse at a player. No matter what you say can excuse the verbal abuse those young ladies took that night. A lot of those girls are just 14 &15 years old. Just be thankful that some of tha dads couldn't hear what was being said at their daughters.

He doesn't have the right to get on the court and disrupt the game! If he does it every game someone needs to ban him. If the Officials would start throwing out some Ts for it. Maybe then it would stop.

I wasn't around Paintsville when this took place and I think it happened before 1992. I doubt that Paintsville High School is proud of that incident and I doubt that it started because they placed a bunch of students behind the opponets bench, but if that were the case then this video would be a perfect example of what can happen when you create that type of environment. Its a simple fix, just move the students behind the Lawrence County bench and perhaps prevent an incident like the one at Paintsville. Your bringing up this incident doesn't make what happened Monday night right.

I am amazed that people feel because they paid $5 to get into the game they can yell at and degrade and beat down the players and especially the officials. I dont think this is what the founding fathers meant when they came up with freedom of speech. If people would come to games with the mind set that they are going to cheer for there teams, there kids, and there school everyone would enjoy the game much more. Players and Refs are human. They will make mistakes its part of the game and part of life. Enjoy the game for what it is and hang your negativity at the door.

My daughter did play basketball for 6 years.. and never cried nor whined a time. The bench I believe is placed there at the coaches wishes as a distraction. Obviously it worked.. and if the girls get that upset by crowd noise.. may they should take up chorus or band.. just saying. I believe the whole problems was made by the refs letting the whole game get out of control. By the way the behavior of the students was no worse than the same behavior of the Paintsville Parents.. what adult would stoop to that level. I was not the only person who saw her behavior. This was the same behavior sported by the the Paintsville Parents when I attended a Middle School football game back in the Fall. So move on and go cry about another game.

Bernie Carroll has always let her temper get out control with all 3 of her girls basketball games and as for the man in the wheel chair he is an old man who comes to all LC sporting events and does like to argue with the Refs.. he has been thrown out of many games.

Well you may approve of people using vulgar language with your daughter. I don't use that language with my daughter or anyone else for that matter and I certainly don't appreciate a coach or administration allowing it. As far as a distraction, I think the Lady Tigers handled it well, because they won a tough game on the road. Pretty sad if thats the way you have to try to win a game, but it didn't work in this case.

Congrats to Paintsville on a nice win. Sorry for the poor sportsmanship displayed by the LC student section. Strange to me that you would have the away team in front of the student section anyways... I know for the LC/EC Boys game, the LC Boys bench was in front of the student section.

BTW, LC knows Ms. Carroll quite well... she used to be at LC while her oldest daughter played. :eyeroll:

Generally we would always be less derogatory towards female basketball players when I was in the student section. But my God thinking about the insanity of putting the student section behind the other teams bench. I can only think of how crazy it would have been if Paintsville and JC did that for one of their games. They probably need to move the students away from the opponents bench.

Exactly... obviously not a lot of thought put into placing the visiting team in front of the student section.

Hopefully it will be a lesson learned for LC and it won't happen again.
#30
The only logic I can see in LC having the student section behind the visiting teams bench is that in years past, for as long as I can remember, the benches were located opposite side of the floor in comparison to where they are now. This has always and remains to be the visiting teams seating section. It got to the point that the opposing teams would place their student section directly behind LC's bench and they would harass them, just as LC's student section did Paintsville the other night the entire game.
