Kentucky Baseball Notebook
#1
LEXINGTON – After sweeping No. 7 South Carolina and beating rival Louisville last week, the Kentucky baseball team has been named the National Team of the Week by CollegeBaseballInsider.com.

The wins extended UK’s winning streak to five games and improved the Wildcats record to 30-10, including 11-7 in the Southeastern Conference. By taking just 40 games to reach the 30-win plateau, the team matched the 1991 squad for fastest to 30.

The league record has vaulted UK into a first-place tie in the SEC Eastern Division with the Gamecocks. The two teams are one game ahead of second place Vanderbilt, who UK faces this weekend in Nashville.

The series sweep over USC was the first sweep for UK over a ranked opponent since 1991. In the three games, the Wildcats scored 37 runs, tied for the second most they have ever scored in an SEC series.

Dombrowski Added to Clemens Award Watch List for Nation’s Top Pitcher: Sophomore pitcher Greg Dombrowski has been added to the watch list for the Roger Clemens Award, given annually to the nation’s top pitcher.

Dombrowski has posted a 7-1 record this year with wins over No. 7 South Carolina, No. 12 Tennessee and No. 19 Florida. His 2.25 earned-run average is the fourth best in the SEC and he has led the league in the category for most of the season.

With seven wins already, Dombrowski has matched the most wins for a UK pitcher in a season since 1997. Other pitchers who have won seven in a season include current major leaguers Brandon Webb and Scott Downs. Dombrowski opened the year by not walking a batter in 41 innings and has issued just six free passes all season. His is tied for 10th in the nation in fewest walks allowed.
