Well in a good economy you don't have to chase down jobs all over the world to make ends meet. They need people in the South Pole to clean up penguin crap. Hay the economy is great.

Let me remind you that while there may be some work out of coal fields, it's not as easy as calling someone up and saying hey i need a job.

I spent 12 years honing my craft. I can run almost any piece of heavy machinery that goes on a surface mine. That's 12 years I could have stayed in school. 12 years i could have sold drugs. 12 years i could have wasted by moving from place to place looking for another job to hold down..

Fact is.. I liked the money.. I'm not a doctor. I probably would never get accepted in med school if I tried. furthermore now I can't because i have other priorities I have to worry about.

I'm not a computer whiz.. I can't figure out algorithems (sp??) and i'm just bad enough at calculus and trig, that I'm not sure I could get a degree in that either..

Not that I havent tried. I spent two years in college while also working on a strip job.. Because I had no federal aid. Because I happened to be cursed with honesty and I couldn't lie on my application. So even though my parents had 4 kids, a mortgage, and two car payments, according to govmt. we made too much money for me to get aid.. And i'm not even going to start on loans

Now.. once again. I'm glad that you have searched the nation and found jobs that allow you to feed your family.. That's awesome, and I truly hope nothing happens to take that away from you. I really hope there isn't a group of people who come out of the wood work and have no idea what you are doing, but are able to convince people that it's the work of the devil so to speak..

Not everyone is cut out for every job out there... The people I worked with for the past 12 years can barely turn a computer on. Because it's not something that has ever really interested them.. I would say that only a select few know what hedge funds, cds, iras, or any of that stuff is.. most have a 401k but that's just cause the company usually helps out.. so it's safe to say that not one of them will ever operate on your brain, lungs, mcl, acl, or even your balls.. however, when people need work on their house, yard, plumbing, air conditioner, or something of that sort who do they call? Either illegal immigrants, or people who don't care to get their hands dirty. But now that one of the industries that people have to get their hands dirts is slowly being weeded out, what are these people to do??

Looking for a job is fine. Finding a job that allows you to keep feeding your family, is hard. Cause a lot of these guys can't just uproot and move their family to another state or whatever. It's not that easy..

Stole the election..... hahahahaha

I believe Obama will win reelection. I don't WANT him to. However..... If he does or doesn't, I'll never resort to the falsehood of it being stolen from the loser. and yes, Gore is and was a loser.

If democrats have such a trouble reading a ballot that they developed, educated, and published..... I'd imagine the IQ of the voters that liberals get.

That's true for a lot of people but not everyone. I don't know what kind of job you have, but I tried insurance adjusting a few years ago when I was laid off then. The potential to make a lot of money was there.. But the weather wasnt' permitting. And I couldn't run to another state on the hope that something would happen. Because the company didn't furnish your hotel room and all that.

But one thing i'm pretty sure of is this, Miners have a pretty good right to bitch about government. Without permits you can't mine. Without the epa's consent the permits don't get released. Somebody decided to raise the guidelines immensely for the epa. or however that worked. So by default mines get shut down.. Thousands of workers get displaced. this isn't just a couple hundred people either. a lot of people..

So if you have an area the size of, let's say pike floyd, johnson, and martin county.. and 75% of that population relies on an industry to stay afloat, then something happens and let's say that 25% of the 75 lose their job, what happens then?/

I'm throwing numbers around.. not real stats

but anyways, who have all these displaced workers looking for work. the competition becomes stiff. on top of that a lot of these guys only have the skills to work in a certain area. If somebody is hiring then they get to have their picks.. everyone left is just stuck..

So while I can appreciate your will to travel and work, it's just not made for everyone that is out of work.

Mines have tons of permits, right now. They are sitting on that coal because it is selling for less than what it cost to mine. Prices go up, miners go back to work. BTW, my job doesn't pay for a motel for me to stay in either.

TheRealVille Wrote:And was stolen by what party?

Well, TheRealVille, you are, as expected, showing your ignorance of the law and the facts. The attempt to steal the election was perpetrated by your boys serving as election officials in Florida and by the all Democrat Florida Supreme Court.

I'm sure you also believe that the vote in the USSC was 5-4. It wasn't. the vote finding Florida's "methods" for recounts unconstitutional (in accordance with the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment) was 7-2. The 5-4 vote was merely in regard to the remedy.

The case was historic for many reasons. Of utmost interest was that the Democrats argued the Tenth Amendment (usually a Republican favorite) and the Republicans argued the Fourteenth Amendment (usually a Democrat favorite). But, I need to stop because I am obviously way over your head.

Try reading Bush v Gore before making your uninformed statements. However, you will need an interpreter.

Limbaugh predicted the below 8% figure almost a year ago. I guess that in the eyes of TheRealVille and his boys, Limbaugh is a true prophet. Actually, he isn't a prophet. He is a realist. The below 8% figure in October of the election year was as certain as Friday following Thursday. It is strictly political and would make fine fertilizer for your tomato plants.

The contrived figure does not change the fact that Kardashian is incompetent. Those who support him actually support an empty chair in need of a teleprompter containing phrases created by others and not by him. You can put a dummy in a nice blue suit with a nice white shirt and blue tie. However, that person is still a dummy. Maybe he needs to be referred to as Charlie McCarthy.

Kentucky and WV. Alpha is sitting on 58 million tons, refusing to mine it because of the selling price, just to name one company.

I'll bet they will sell it if the economic environment improves through the defeat of the dummy. Companies are holding on to their assets- including cash. Good for them. They are in business to make money for their stockholders and employees and not to assist the incompetent, lazy, socialist (but, of course, "cool") Charlie McCarthy.

They won't sell it until it sells for more than what it takes to mine it. As long as Montana is selling coal for 6-8 dollars a ton, and the natural gas prices stay dirt cheap, Appalachian coal will continue to die. Powerhouses are mixing a little low sulfur coal(appalachian) with the higher sulfur, lower btu(wester coal) at present. This is all possible because of the scrubbers that have been installed on coal powerhouses. Until the other prices rise, coal in the coalfields will die a slow death. Like I said, coal companies are sitting on tons of permits right now, and will continue to, until they can make a profit on their coal. That won't happen as long as Montana, and other western states have cheap coal, and natural gas is selling at record low prices, which isn't going to happen in the near future.

Quote:U.S. Coal Reserves: An Update by Heat and Sulfur Content

Low-sulfur recoverable coal reserves in the United States are estimated to total almost 100.2 billion short tons, 87 percent of which is concentrated in the West
.

Quote:Montana Quick Facts

As of the end of 2010, Montana
held over one-quarter of the estimated recoverable reserve base of coal in the United States and was the sixth largest coal-producing State in 2011, supplying 3.8 percent of U.S. coal and distributing it to 13 States.

Quote:Coal in Montana

With the exception of the small lignite mine at Sidney, Montana production is entirely low-sulfur subbituminous coal, with 17-18 million Btu per ton. Like most Western coal, Montana coal is cleaner but lower in heat content than coal mined in the East.

Exactly. And, mixed with appalachian high btu coal, and the scrubbers I have helped to install in the last 10 years, Power plants can now burn that coal. As long as it costing more to mine appalachian coal than it sells for, and natural gas is cheap, appalachian coal will suffer. What is so hard to see about companies won't mine coal that costing more to mine, than what it is selling for? Try as you might, you all can't spin that.

"Coal News and Markets Report" summarizes spot coal prices by coal commodity regions (i.e., Central Appalachia (CAP), Northern Appalachia (NAP), Illinois Basin (ILB), Powder River Basin (PRB), and Uinta Basin (UIB)) in the United States. The report includes data on average weekly coal commodity spot prices, total monthly coal production, eastern monthly coal production, and average cost of metallurgical coal at coke plants and export docks.
