Morehead State Director of Athletics Brian Hutchinson has announced that Head Football Coach Matt Ballard’s contract will not be renewed after it expires in December. Ballard served as head coach of the Eagles for 19 seasons and an assistant for four additional years.

This had been rumored for some time and is not really a surprise.
Coach Ballard has been a true inspiration and a big asset to MSU. Hopefully he will stay on with the university in some capacity.

Morehead State lost a great coach with Coach Ballard and his defensive coordinator Coach Gilliam. They were both class acts that truly cared about the players that played for them. Not sure why the AD would want to make a change...he was the winiest head coach in Morehead State history...he has had more winning seasons then any other coach. So why would it be no surprise to let him go? He has no scholarships to work with and plays major competition in 1-AA level. Doesn't make sense to me. Good luck to Coach Ballard and Coach Gilliam on where ever they land.
