Police tell LEX18 witnesses in Lexington tell them a couple got into a fight at a gas station, and he dragged her away and shot her.


The woman is currently undergoing treatment at UK Hospital. Driving a silver sedan with Illinois plates, the shooting suspect drove off and was spotted by Lexington police headed northbound on I-75.


Scott County deputies and Georgetown police placed spike strips to try to stop suspect at exit 125. The strips blew out passenger side tires, but driver kept going until exit 129.


That's where another set of strips was placed. The alluding vehicle was able to get around those spike strips, but didn't get much further, landing in right shoulder of highway.


Police surrounded the subject, who got out of his vehicle "brandishing a weapon." That's when a Scott County Deputy shot the suspect with a rifle, and the suspect was killed on the scene.


The Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene. Deputy who shot suspect was been placed on paid leave, and Scott County Sheriff Hampton says that preliminary investigation reveals that it was a warranted shooting, and placing deputy on leave is protocol.
The investigation is still ongoing.
