A Few XP and IE tips
#1
Change File Associations
Here’s a handy tip. Suppose you install a program that changes the file associations. Instead of your AVI files opening in Windows Media Player, maybe they open in Winamp, and you don’t like that. Well, all you have to do is open My Computer, click Tools, Folder Options, then click on the File Types tab. Locate the type of file you want to change the program for, in this case, AVI. Once you locate AVI, click the Change button. Now, select the program from the list, or click browse to manually locate the program if it’s not in the list. Finally, click OK and you’re set.

System Info
To see your system information, click Start, Run, then in the dialog box type msinfo32 and hit enter. A box will appear with some useful information.

Change Font Size in Internet Explorer
Some website may use a ridiculous size text. To remedy this temporarily, you can resize the font size in IE by holding CTRL and rolling your scroll wheel on your mouse. To get back to the original size, simply reverse direction on the mouse wheel.

Resetting Web Settings
Some times you’ll annoying programs that will change where Internet Explorer automatically searches if you type in a key word, or a URL that isn’t working at the moment. This can be due to spyware. But if all you want to do is get IE back to normal, then do the following to reset your web settings. In IE, click Tools, Internet Options, click the Programs tab, and then finally click the Reset Web Settings button. You can also have it reset your homepage to the default MSN.com page if you wish. If not, uncheck the box that pops up, then click Yes.

Cleaning Up Your Tracks
If you’ve been looking at sites you shouldn’t have been and would like to cover your tracks, do this. In IE, click Tools and then Internet Options. From here you can do a number of things. The Clear History button will do just that. It will remove the website address from the address bar in IE. Delete Files (and Delete Offline Files within that option) will remove temporary files stored by IE. Be patient if you haven’t done this before, it may take awhile. You can also remove cookies by utilizing the Delete Cookie button. Also, if you have saved passwords or information in forms, you can clear this information by clicking the Content tab at the top, and then click the Auto Complete button. From there you can Clear Forms and Clear Passwords.
