The 2nd American Civil War
#1
This will happen. The only variable is when.

People can't disagree on issues and move on with their lives. We've turned in to an angry society. Some issues (abortion, LGBTQ+, immigration, the 2nd amendment) you are not gonna change people's minds on. Now though, it seems as soon as people disagree with somebody, no matter the issue, we get mad and any chance of having a civilized conversation.

Something will happen similar to the riots in Ferguson or Baltimore. Since Trump has been in office, these types of events have dwindled down from the amount we seen under Obama or Antifa will try and cause a civil disturbance. People are on a tipping point with all of the political issues. Citizens are on one side or the other... the fence riders have all but vanished. I believe when one major Right v. Left battle starts, it will spread across the country. As the old saying goes, "We are sitting on dynamite, just waiting for the fuse to be lit." The "Lit Fuse" will be a highly publicized Right v. Left clash.

The new South
Right-wing/Conservatives.
Gun lovers.
Pro-Life.
Working class.

The new North
Left-Wing/Liberals.
Gun control advocates.
Pro-Choice.
Lives on the Government's dime.
Offended by almost everything.

This won't be the states separating like in the 1860's. The nation will be divided, but the battles will be on a small scale like neighbor v. neighbor or community v. community.

(1) Unless a waiting period, or background check, or mental health database equals “the Nazis’ gun round up, I imagine the different factions will just keep posting memes belittling each other, at the urging of politicians eager for easy campaign ads via wedge issues.

(2) For near half a century Roe v. Wade has been settled law. If the Roberts Court overturns it, and abortion becomes illegal in 20+ states, it will make for harsh and angry debate, but that’s what we’ve had since the majority opinion in that case went to press.

(3) “Offended by almost everything” cuts both ways. The “price” of free speech is having to listen to a lot of speech we don’t agree with, or even despise if the ideas expressed are particularly revolting to us. It’s worth it. Let Ann Coulter speak unimpeded at Berkeley. Let Al Sharpton follow her. Have at it. Grow a thick skin and a love for the free and open exchange of ideas.

Ronald Reagan and Tip O’Neil had drastically different policy notions about what was best for America. They debated fiercely. They felt no need to go to the equivalent place of hateful memes posted about each other. Instead, they went to dinner, drank some wine, swapped tall tales, then got up next morning to flesh out and debate their deep differences.

This society has moved far past the civility of the Reagan years. We're MUCH closer to seeing thought-police punishing people for thought-crime ala the vision of George Orwell.

Conservatives have at least half the money and 90% of the guns. I'm comfortable lol.
With a little backhand swat to the nose these liberals who want to talk loud and get in your face will be at home under the bed with the blinds shut in the fetal position sucking their thumb.:eyeroll:

The only pictures the media are going to put out there are families crossing the border. They're not going to report the fact that MANY more single adults cross at the same time. Or that each illegal immigrant must pay a human trafficker between 5 and 12 thousand dollars for his 'ticket' to the US. Nor will they tell you how these folks are ushered across Mexico to the border under the watchful eyes of both governments.

The only pictures the media are going to put out there are protestors wreaking havoc. They're not going to report the fact that these protestors are bused in, paid a wage, and are repeat professional protestors. Political mercenaries if you will. Nor will they tell you about the big money financier/organizers behind it all, or their acid sure ties to certain political elements of the federal government. I suppose if Americans are going to insist in continuing on in such willful ignorance, the language of the First Amendment should be changed from...
"the right of the people...to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. "

to...
"the right of shadowy and powerful people...to sedition the Government for a redress of grievances. "

In both the cases of illegal immigration and paid protestors of the left, there are forces at work here behind the scenes. And it is the American public who're being played for suckers. Fortunately for the sake of this land, those on the right have not yet recompensed in like fashion. A confrontation like the one Pulp has identified must be avoided, and THIS time, the responsibility falls in everybody's lap not to take the bait. America has to be smarter than those trying to goad us into the throes of violent self destruction.

Makes one wonder if there is a single adult sitting the Congress.
