Young Goldsmith eager to direct diverse offense
Quarterback, Bulldogs gearing for turnaround
By JEREMY BRYANT / THE INDEPENDENT
LOUISA — Like any football program, Lawrence County has its share of iconic figures who have helped to make it successful.

In the fall of 2004, one of the founding fathers for the Bulldogs made his return to the sidelines of Luke Varney Field.

Coach Billy Goldsmith, who guided Lawrence County’s program from 1986-93, walked away on top, with a resume that included a region championship in 1991 as well as a district title in 1992.

When Goldsmith departed he did so with his family on his mind, with a young son named Boone in tow.

That same kid is now an impressive 6-foot-4, 175-pound starting quarterback. Unfortunately for the younger Goldsmith, he sustained a knee injury at the midway point of last season, but he returns hungrier from the setback.

I want to wish Coach Goldsmith, Boone, and the rest of the Bulldogs good luck in the upcoming season. Billy is a class act!
