Itâs that time of year again. Letâs give the 15th region a preseason look see.
1) Lawrence County (35-6)- defending 15th region champion. Lost 4 seniors off last years team. They return the majority of their offense and pitching from last year. LC should be the favorite in the 15th this year. Theyâll be able to hit it and pitch it as good as anyone in the state.
2) Johnson Central(32-6)- fell to LC in the regional finals last year. Lost 5 seniors and a transfer but gained Seth Williams from Paintsville. Losing Ryley Preece for the season to knee surgery is a big blow but JC will have enough offense to out slug almost anyone. Pitching is where theyâll be a little thin. Still should be right there and compete for a regional championship.
3) Paintsville(21-16)- lost 2 seniors and Seth Williams to transfer. They lost a lot but return Some really good players. Pitching should be solid for them. They lost a lot of offense but they still have a few kids that can swing it. If Paintsville stays healthy they be right there competing for a regional championship.
4) Pikeville(17-18)- lost 3 seniors from a solid club. Not sure how their offense will be but they have some really good arms that can compete with anyone.
After the top 4 is where it gets murky in my opinion. Floyd Central, Belfry, Pike County Central, and Shelby Valley should be lumped into the second tier group of teams. These teams can beat anyone but donât quite have the pieces the top teams have.
5) Floyd Central(13-19)- lost 3 seniors. I believe their pitching will have them jump a few teams this year. They have more returning from last year then PCC, Belfry, or SV.
6) Pike County Central(16-18)- lost 4 seniors. Lost a lot from last year but returns a kid that will compete for regional player of the year.
7) Belfry(20-10)- lost 5 seniors and a starter to transfer.
8) Shelby Valley(16-16)- lost 3 seniors.
9) Prestonsburg(7-23)- lost 7 seniors.
10) Sheldon Clark/Martin County(18-12)- lost 3 seniors and a transfer.
11) Betsy Layne(9-18)- lost 4 seniors.
12) Magoffin County(4-19)- lost 2 seniors.
13) Phelps(11-17)- lost 5 seniors.
14) East Ridge(2-16)- lost 3 seniors.
15) Jenkins(2-14)- lost 3 seniors.
Should be a great year with some great baseball. Praying for good health for every kid and Good luck to every team.
