Final.

Rowan County was one of the hottest teams in the girl's 16th region in the last 6 weeks of basketball. Rowan County had won 12 out of 13 coming into tonight's game vs. Russell. Rowan County had beaten Russell both times in the Regular Season and Haven Ford in both games averaged 25 & 11 against Russell.

Tonight, was the same as Ford scored 20 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals. Steele for Russell had 19 points and 5 assists. Steele an 8th grader and Ford a Freshman will be playing in some big games over the next 3 years. It was 22-15 at the Half Rowan County leading and neither team could buy a basket in the 1st half. Then Russell outscored Rowan County 33-19 in the 2nd half for a tough 48-41 victory over Rowan County. Russell played similar to Tuesday Night against East Carter when they trailed at the half but had a big 2nd half to pull of the win.

This will be the third meeting when Russell and Boyd County meet tomorrow night at 7pm to see who goes to State. Russell won the 1st meeting and Boyd County won the 2nd meeting. This will be the 2nd straight year that Russell meets Boyd County for the 16th Region Championship. It will be another good game for the 16th Region Girls Championship.

This will be the 4th meeting not 3rd. Boyd won the first meeting in the Pikeville invitational Championship. Boyd Leads 2-1 this year.

I watched the game and listened to it on the radio. Without Steele, I don't think Russell would have pulled the game out.

You are correct on this being the 4th meeting this year between Russell and Boyd County. I had forgot about the Pikeville Invitational. Most of the Russell and Boyd County games are outstanding and it should be no different tomorrow night in Morehead. I do agree that if Russell didn't have Steele tonight Russell probably doesn't win tonight vs. Rowan County. The same can be said during most of the season for Rowan County without Ford where would have Rowan County been this year. It was especially a great game for Steele because most of her damage came in the 2nd half scoring 15 out of her 19 points in the 2nd half. It will be another great matchup with Boyd County(Paynter, Biggs, and Rucker) going against Russell(Steele, Ross, and Hill) It will be another great game to see who gets to go to State this year!

The reason Steele didn't score a lot in the first half is because she had to sit with 2 fouls.
