It's all about trying to get reelected.  I would say that a good 95% of the Trump followers in the Senate and
congress know that he is delusional, but are more interested in getting his cult's vote than in doing what is right for the country.

I forget which lawmaker said it but he said not one single one of his Republican colleagues in the Senate believed the stuff that Trump was espousing. They would not say that publicly but in private they knew he was nuts. All about politics, as you stated. The problem is, by not coming forward publicly and putting an end to these crazy conspiracies, they risk losing their party to this madness. It may already be too late.
