Chapter 1: On February 10, 1990 Shannon Hoskins rode a bus to Paris, Ky. As a talented 10 grader he scored 44 points and his team scored 100 points at the Bourbon County gym. 12-21-83 a 29-5 Lee County team who would finish the season with this won loss record played at Bourbon County. Bourbon County 56 Lee County 54 in overtime. Lee County was led by Dean Noe, Jeff Ginnan & Emory Crawford. Bourbon County would be a team M.C. Napier would play on Saturday morning in the semi finals at Rupp Arena. In the 1983 season Mike Napier would have 49 & 50 point games from January 9 through January 15. In the semifinals of the region Letcher High was within 5 points with 3 minutes to go in the game to Napier, but like all good teams they made their free throws to seal the win. Letcher High was led by Mansford Gibson, Keith Collins & Jack Luttrell. In the weekend of February 4 and 5, 1984 Napier played in a Mullins(Pikeville) Invitational. First round game Napier 80 Sheldon Clark 76. Brian Maynard scored 24 and Teddy Duncan 21 for the Inez school. Scoring shows Darwin Whitaker off the bench with his 14 points helped Napier to the win. Pulaski County 63 Napier 62 in the finals. Reggie Hanson was a 10 grader for the Somerset school. The Mullins gym is small with not much seating. Napier was 25-6 on the season. Starters were Larry Napier, Bill Cole, Mike Smith, Gary Baker & Eddie Carroll. I visited with Coach Randy Napier and he explained what this season meant to the school, community and fans all across the 14th region. Coach Denny Fugate as a player & coach had a passion for the game not many people have. Chapter 2: Games at Rupp Arena.
