Three Songs Before You Die ???
#1
I was thinking about this a year or so ago but never posted the topic.  If you knew you had only another twenty minutes or so to live and you wanted to hear a couple or three pop, rock, or country(or other genre) songs from your past one last time , what would that song or songs be?

I'll start with my #1 . It is the song that I have already requested to be played at my end of life celebration.

From 1976 ,  Mr. Elton. John.  So poignant ;  so meaningful.  The words and music touch every fiber of my being . This is the last track (suitably) on his ninth studio album, the autobiographical Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy.

"...
Cultivate the freshest flower
This garden ever grew
Beneath these branches
I once wrote
Such childish words for you
But that's okay
There's treasure children always seek to find
And just like us
You must have had
A once upon a time "

Westy,   for my #2 song I am going to have to go out listening to some cowbell. Any song that can romanticize death  is one I want to listen to when I pass from this world. I have always loved this song. It speaks to me.

Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn't go on

Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew and then disappeared
The curtains flew and then he appeared
Saying don't be afraid

Come on, baby (and she had no fear)
And she ran to him (then they started to fly)
They looked backward and said goodbye (she had become like they are)
She had taken his hand (she had become like they are)
Come on, baby (don't fear the reaper)

For my third song I've gone back and forth, back and forth between a song from my youth that takes me back to 12 years old or a song from one of my favorite albums(Boston's debut).

1974 was my favorite year of music. So many great songs came out that year. It was such a simple, carefree life for a kid of 12... no worries, just playing outside til daylight gave way to the sound of crickets and the sound of my mom hollering for us to get our asses home.   "Rock Me Gently,"  "Locomotion,"  "Sundown"  and  "Radar Love" played on the radio, and this timeless classic from Terry Jacks:

We had joy, we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the stars we could reach
Were just starfish on the beach

We had joy, we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the wine and the song
Like the seasons have all gone

All our lives we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed
Were just seasons out of time

Honestly, the song is so sad that I probably would just go with a good ol' Boston song that would allow me to leave the world rockin' out to a good feelin' groove ... maybe "Don't Look Back,"   "Peace of Mind,"  or  "Long Time."

Yeah, it's been such a long time
I think I should be goin', yeah
And time doesn't wait for me
It keeps on rollin'    ...
