Cross District Accepted for 2022
#1
KHSAA has accepted the opinion of around 2/3 of the coaches to play cross district in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs. I think west/east RPI starts round 3 and statewide RPI is semi finals.

Good deal!

Refresh me please on how they do this? is it D1 vs. D2 and so on?

Key words “first 2 rounds” perfect perfect perfect. This solves the problem of the central/franklin, boyle/lex cath problem where one team is out in the second round and keeps the sucky districts from going farther than top 4 teams. RPI in the third prevents the best teams in the state playing even earlier. This is a good setup in my eyes. Combo of both.

Only problem is a situation like this past year where JC had to take a COVID loss. If the same format would’ve been in place JC would’ve had to go to Boyle and Corbin to Lex Cath third round.

Class 4A, District 7          Overall  District
  (1)Corbin                10 - 0 - 1  3 - 0 - 0
  (2)Lincoln County          5 - 6 - 0  2 - 1 - 0
  (3)Knox Central            5 - 5 - 1  1 - 2 - 0
  (4)Wayne County            4 - 6 - 1  0 - 3 - 0

Class 4A, District 8          Overall  District
  (1)Johnson Central        8 - 2 - 1  4 - 0 - 0
  (2)Letcher County Centra  6 - 3 - 2  3 - 1 - 0
  (3)Perry County Central    7 - 3 - 1  2 - 2 - 0
  (4)Clay County            5 - 5 - 1  1 - 3 - 0
      Harlan County          2 - 8 - 1  0 - 4 - 0

I may be looking at it wrong but this would be a example of who would be cross districting who. So Corbin would have played Clay County in round 1 and Johnson Central would have played Wayne County round 1 if I understand it right.

Right. Boyle’s sister district is the Scott district. So essentially your 4 East teams that are left in the third round is Boyle Lex Cath Corbin JC. With how RPI went this year, that would’ve been your region matchups.

I never understood why the KHSAA went away from this setup twice.

For those jam-packed districts like Franklin Countys that has contenders consistently, I can see this helping.

Should at least get the best 8 teams or at least close to it in the quarterfinals. Definitely will in the east.

Biggest winners off top of my head are Lex. Cath, Central, Highlands, Scott County, Graves Co, Bullitt East, Ballard

Not familiar with all of these district pairings.

Ballard gets to avoid Trinity for another week.

Central scheduling 6A teams can really boost their RPI and give them an easier road and avoid Franklin Co a week or two.

Bullitt East is really going to have to push to consistently be #2 because I don't see them beating Male and they'd rather play Southern or Fern Creek than X or Manual in the first round. I'd say in any given year PRP and Butler will tougher.

Thank God this is back in place. Please Khsaa leave it alone this time and make this a permanent thing

I like it... KHSAA should have not messed with it in the first place.

Just a friendly reminder, I almost forgot that Cross Districting is now in affect for 2022.

I like this a lot and I'm glad to see it.  If the two best teams in the region are in the same district, then so be it.  They deserve to play for that regional championship.
