Celebrating the Season for the Right Reason
#1
As those who've read my posts know, I often speak about this world as having been judged from it's foundation; in other words the time of creation.

We came into this world with the power to do one thing, make choices. But in order for a person to make a choice, there obviously has to be more than one option. In this case the choice is between this created world and the Kingdom of God.

Jesus made this choice clear as was recorded in Colossians 1:13-14 NASB

The Incomparable Christ
13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

We are if we choose, (that's the choice mentioned above) delivered from the domain of darkness which of course is ruled by Satan. That is why this world is referred to as having been judged. This clear choice is between the temporary world we see all around us, albeit centuries old, or the coming Kingdom of God. If you were born into this world, you WILL choose. To that end, even if one tries not to make a conscious choice by burying oneself in the affairs of this life, you in fact by default reject the tug of God on your heart. Which like it or not is your choice. With such flippancy most people just toss eternity aside with not so much as a wince.

The warring entities for your heart have two Kings. The king of this world which of course is Satan, or the King of Kings which is Christ the King. We can either try to satisfy ourselves with what this world has to offer, as is ultimately revealed as a fools errand by both those who got rich working or those who got rich by hitting the Lotto. Or we can satisfy our heart's longings with the truth of Christ, Whom is also called the Prince of Peace.

The season is Christmas. Glory to the newborn King!!!

Isaiah Chap 9
6 For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace
On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.

The phrase "Peace on Earth, Goodwill Towards Men" as is meant to be sung in the Christmas carol referenced above, came from the King James version of the Bible. Luke Chap 2.

^^ The New American Standard  version of God's Word states the phrase as follows:
13  And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army of angels praising God and saying,
14  “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among people with whom He is pleased.”

The announcement "Peace on earth among men/women with whom He is pleased," had a very specific application the second it came out of the mouths of Angels. And it has the exact same very specific application today. One of the names given to Jesus Christ is "The Prince of Peace." This earth will not know any kind of lasting peace, (though there have been very brief respites of peace across time) until the Prince of Peace comes back to this world to preside over peace. It will be a time of unfathomable harmony and good will that leads into eternity.

But for now for the most part, those who're obedient to God, His people, will even in times of distress and testing enjoy peace under His protective care. But due to the rigors presented in every life lived outside of Christ, those people who don't know God will have trouble finding any kind of real peace. So every year at this time since His people have the preserving effect of salt and the illuminating effect of light, God's message to the world that forgiveness of sin, and of peace and goodwill to men is re-given. My hope and prayer is that all those who read this will have a very merry Christmas. And that those who are not saved will seriously contemplate the good news of the gospel in the spirit in which it is offered from the Lord Himself. Peace on Earth, Goodwill to men!
