DeSantis is the GOP frontrunner already and he has not yet announced that he is a candidate for the presidency. Trump has already tried to tag DeSantis with a childish nickname. DeSantis just ignored the insult and it didn't stick. I really don't expect Trump to be a serious candidate in 2024. 

If DeSantis runs, then you can bet that he will be prepared for Trump to attack him like he attacked Jeb Bush in 2016 and I think that DeSantis is smart enough to ridicule Trump's insults while forcing Trump to defend his record. DeSantis will join Dr. Fauci and Donald Trump at the hip through his 2024 ads if DeSantis decides to run.
