On a side note, was anyone on this site around when Paris had their state championship runs in the late 70’s early 80’s?  I’ve always wondered how good those teams were and what it was like to play them.

I played in Paris' district for Berea from 1982-85 as a noseguard and O tackle.  My senior year we were  6-1 at one point and #13 in class A.  Unfortunately our district consisted of #1 Paris, #3 Harrodsburg, #5 Mercer County, #9 Madison High and #10 Garrard County at that time.  Paris just had sheer numbers for a Class A team.  I remember them having to bring the kids on at least two if not three school buses which for Class A was something to see.  They had a lot of double numbers on the team and I figured at that time they had over 100 kids on the team.  It didn't matter how well you played as a team when you had to go both ways and in Class A most kids had to do that, you eventually got gassed as we did in the fourth quarter against guys that were always fresh.  I don't remember being overwhelmed by their talent as I almost always kept my blocking percentage in the 90% range except for Madison High School where I got assigned a guy that I just couldn't block because he was faster than me.  As I remember, we kept within a touchdown or two of Paris until the fourth quarter and then lost by probably 4-5 touchdowns.  Paris ran a lot and played a lot of inside traps and sweeps and played solid ball.
We lost to Madison High 7-6 that year and they beat Paris in an upset but Madison got beat by Harrodsburg.  Harrodsburg had been beaten by Paris.  I forget how it all worked out.
But, anyhow, Paris was good, but I was never impressed by any particular player's skill.  They just beat you by wave after wave of players.  Harrodsburg was good and always had some really good players that hit hard and Madison High always had one or two really good athletes that were tough to keep up with because of speed.  The kid at Madison that I couldn't block at linebacker was named (Bo?) Sweat.  He was the only player that I played my senior year that I felt got the better of me on offense.

Got to admit that was a heck of a catch on that pass right before the Rams went up 21 to 7 especially when the receiver was out of bounds

Paris is like a really good middle school team, that never learned how to run up the middle, and just chucks it to the fastest receiver. Which works against bad teams, Raceland...not so much.
