Somerset 50 - Danville 7
#1
Final score Somerset 50 Danville 7.

Somerset scored first, Danville jumped offsides on the PAT, Somerset then went for 2 and failed. 6-0. Danville’s lone touchdown came on the ensuing kickoff returned by Baughman down the Danville sideline to take their only lead of the game at 7-6.

Danville remained close at 14-7 throughout the first half until miserably executing a QB punt from deep in their own territory with under two minutes in the half giving Somerset a short field on about the 35 which Somerset quickly took advantage of to extend their lead 21-7. An unusual choice there with a fairly strong punter on your sideline to implement a disastrous poorly executed punt only down 7 less than two minutes from halftime. The kids were not proficient and did not seem confident in the execution of the play. Trickery, afraid to punt away, not sure, maybe there was a sound rationale but in reality it was a disaster.

Amazingly, Danville would do it again in the second half and botch it worse late in the game from deep in their own territory. A lineman possibly a linebacker, big kid wearing a lineman’s number, caught and returned a very short blooper punt 35-40 for the final touchdown of the game. He was ecstatic with all the linemen piling on him in celebration on the sideline. Maybe there was some reason they had to execute punts like this. If it was a choice it was a bad choice

Halftime score 21-7. End of the third quarter score 43-7. Running clock. Final 50-7.

#13 for Somerset, Kam Hughes, is a tough physical football player both sides of the ball. Punishing defender. Baughman for Danville is a fearless, tenacious running back with speed and balance.

What is Baughman’s relation to Darius Baughman, who played for Danville in the early 2000s? Son?

Yes, congratulations to Coach Clevenger and his Somerset Briar Jumpers. Love that he landed so well and in the same district with Danville. Quite poetic.

Jimmy Baughman was one of the greatest Admiral Running Backs ever.
