Belfry 35 - Sheldon Clark 8
#1
Good win for the Pirates!! The most exciting thing in the game was Shawn Hagers tirade, It is worth the price of admission to see what he will do next.
#2
He was trying to light a fire under his team. I don't blame him.

Well played game by the Pirates, looked good on both sides of the ball. Charlie Dotson was all over the place on defense, as was several others.

It was cool to hear the train whistle tonight but whoever is responsible for blowing it, please, please don't ever blow it again when an opponent is trying to run an extra point. That was hopefully just a mistake, because if it was on purpose then it was very unsportsmanlike.
#3
No suprise.

As far as Shawns tirade, I think he was trying to fire up his kids, but I think he went a little too far.

It doesn't matter to me what he was trying to do, being on the field like that and gesturing to the official the way he did, he deserved to be tossed out of the game. But oh well, the only reason I satyed in the fourth quarter was to see what he might do next. If that is what it takes to light a fire under his team then he needs to find a new profession, when is the last time you have seen Coach Haywood throw a fit like that? Have some class!!!
#5
Congrats Pirates.. no surprise here.
#6
Oh yeah, love the train whistle, it fits our area and I hope we keep it. I just think it should be reserved for when we come through the tunnel, score a TD or field goal, and at the end of the game presuming we win.

I also think it would be better to do like a short blast like they do at PaPa Johns instead of the long blast.

Belfry rolls as expected.

Well...If it was unsportman"LIKE" to blow the airhorn then Mr. Hagers march across the field wasn't very sportsmanlike either was it? NOT saying that blowing the horn during that point in a game was "nice" but I guess they were maybe makin some noise for the TD that SC got at the end of the game. When Belfry DOES get to making some noise then someone ALWAYS has something to say about it. I guess your kinda screwed any which way you go aren't ya.......

Gimme a break. Making a noise like that when the other team is trying to run a play, let alone an extra point is unsportsmanlike. It doesn't matter what anyone does on the other side of the field, there is no reason for us to do that. But like I said, I hope it was just a mistake.

As for Hagers tirade, I just see it as coaching. He was trying to fire up his kids. Of course, Belfry fans are going to take exception and get on his case for it, that is part of the deal. I thought he was over the top and a little outrageous, but nothing to be upset about. If anything we can laugh at it because it didn't work.

WELL, since showing some support for the PIRATES seems to upset you so much, I'll see what I can do about having the air horn blown at requests only.... I have an inside connection with the "blower".... LOL...

AND... just so you know.... it was NOT blown to be unsportsmanlike towards Sheldon Clark and Shawn Hager.......God forbid that happen......

He was upset about a call I guess, and stormed onto the field and yelled at the refs for a few minutes and was escorted to the sideline by an assistant.

Here is what happened.
I was told after the game by a member of the print media was Shawn called a timeout for the sole purpose to come on the field to talk to the referee. He felt that Belfry was getting away with alot of blocking in the back. One official threw the flag for unswportmanlike conduct the other waved it off because he heard Shawn call the timeout. I don't know if this is true but this is what I was told.

I love the Pirates, have no problem supporting them and I love the whistle. I think the blower got a little carried away with it tonight. Maybe it was just because it was his first time, lol.

Bottom line is I KNOW it was the wrong time to blow it when the other team is running a play, period. Whether it was blown to try and be unsportsmanlike or not, doing it at that time WAS unsportsmanlike. They just need to be more careful.

If my saying that upset you, then there's really nothing I could say or do to make it better. And I agree with you, God forbid we do anything unsportsmanlike toward the other teams we play. We are Belfry, and we are better than that. (or at least we should be).

Yep, it was his first time blowing it and YEP, he was asked over and over to blow it MORE than it was actually blown! It was NOT intended to be unsportmanlike, nasty, or mean. I'm finished discussing this and HOPE that is ends now.....

I'm glad we do agree on part of this though!!!

Asked by who to blow it more? Fans sitting nearby? BHS administration? Coaches? Who? Just curious.

This is one of those things that can be really kind of cool. A novelty that you use when you score or when your team is introduced before the game etc. But its not something you want to overdo because it could quickly become a nuisance. You don't want the horn blower to be one of the memorable parts of the game, he should be just a minimal, but very cool, part of the deal.

And you don't want it to be something that is done at the wrong time and ends up giving you a black eye. Think about the Johnson Central music guy who goes way overboard, even playing music when our QB was under center. That is a similar thing, IMO.

That was the MOST aggrivating thing I have ever witnessed at a ballgame.

Outside of blowing the whistle during the other team running a play That sounds pretty cool. I would like to operate it for a night.Big Grin

Congrats to both teams for making it so far.
