What is the difference between the Xbox Live Silver Membership and the Xbox Live Gold Membership?

Can you still talk and play your friends with the Silver Membership?

No. You can only play online with Gold Membership.

I have always wondered that too. I got to renew my gold membership when i get my 360 back, i cant wait!!!

With silver, nothin really. No games, no party chat, I think u can send regular msgs, but thats it.

Silver membership is free, if u dont have gold, or ran outta gold, u have silver. They should just call it "not having paid for xbox live" but they choose to call it silver.

When ever you go to sign up your gold membership it will ask you what you want your gamertag to be, just enter it in then.
