Best Players of All Time in the 15th Region
#1
Who would make your list?
#2
Emma Burke - Johnson Central
Glenna VanHoose - Paintsville
Melissa Butcher - Paintsville
Karen Pelphrey - Paintsville
Ida Bowen- Sheldon Clark
Mandy Harmon - Sheldon Clark
Robin Newsome - Sheldon Clark
Lisa Cade - Allen Central
Bridget Clay - Prestonsburg
Charity Burke - Pikeville
Summer Jones - Shelby Valley
Ashley Damron - Shelby Valley
Amanda Collins - Pike Co. Central
Tiffany Slone - Pike Co. Central
Haley Ratliff - Pike Co. Central

From previous high schools:
Claire Fuller - Feds Creek
Julie Yates - Elkhorn City

I will probably come up with more later. There are other players to be mentioned from schools that I did not name but they probably fall into the category of best from those schools, not the best of all-time coming out of this region.

Betsy Layne has had several good players and Belfry also. Kathy Spinks played for Belfry, led them to the state finals in 1984 against Marshall County, and went on to play for Pat Summit at Tennessee. Geri Grigsby from Mcdowell use to score massive amounts of points in the seventies.

Best female player ever to come from 15th region IMO was Geri Grigsby, McDowell High School. Geri played 3 seasons, 1975-77, scored 4,386 career points. Miss Basketball 1977. Averaged 49.6 ppg in 1977, ave 46.1 ppg career. Had a game high 81 pts against Feds Creek. Signed with UK and finished her career at WKU, I believe. Was the states all time leading scorer until Jami Walz came along. Jami played 6 seasons and scored 4,948 pts. Geri played without the benefit of the 3 point line.
This would be my all time best player in the 15th.

Got carried away and didn't list my other players: Karen Pelphrey JC, Glenna Van Hoose Paintsville, Robin Harmon SC, Ida Bowen SC. You can tell by the list I havent seen many girls games since
the early 90's. So this list is old school, but a pretty good list of athletes.

Geri Grisby definitely makes the list. I was trying to think of the schools that combined to make others and all of them weren't coming to me last night. I know that Claire Fuller hit the state record number of 3s in a game back in the 90s and it has been broken since. She went on to play for Pikeville College but I don't remember much after that.
