Umm... downloading music from the internet isn't right. Also, sites can't be trusted. You will get bad stuff on your computer from downloading from pirated mp3 sites.

If you must download online, get http://www.limewire.com and if you know what you are looking for, and don't search and download anything stupid, you're fine. It's free, and safe if you know what you are doing.

Sharing is what gets you in trouble. A lot of these programs have a way to turn off uploading. If nothing else, if you must download something, remove it from your download folder immediately after it completes. I know that's leeching and it's wrong, but downloading music is also wrong according to the RIAA.

Screw Limewire, it has spyware that comes with the download, you need to get Ares. It's the best I've encountered so far, and I've been doing this for years.

I don't download music so I can't help you there.
Not that I am against it...just dial-up and downloading isn't very smart.
