Student Stabbed at Madison Central High

UPDATE: The Associated Press is reporting Richmond Police have arrested the student accused in the stabbing. Richmond Police are still not identifying either teen involved, but 27 NEWSFIRST has identified the victim as 17-year old Stevie Christopher Caldwell.

UPDATE: 27 NEWSFIRST had learned the 17-year old student stabbed at Madison Central High School is now listed in fair condition at UK Hospital.

UPDATE: Madison County Schools now confirms the students rushed to UK Hospital was stabbed in the classroom. A news released from the district calls this an isolated incident and reassures parents there is no additional threat to students or staff.
All activities at the school have now been canceled, including tonight's school board meeting that was scheduled to take place at the school.
Classes were already canceled for Friday due to fall break. The school system plans to have counselors at the school Monday when classes resume.

A student was rushed to UK Hospital in critical condition after being stabbed at school Thursday in class. Madison Central High School is now in lockdown.

Richmond Police tell 27 NEWSFIRST two 17-year old students got into an altercation in their food lab just after noon Thursday. One student was assaulted. Police will not say what weapon was used but 27 NEWSFIRST has been told by witnesses that the the student was stabbed. The student was rushed to UK Hospital in critical condition.

A mother who was in the school just moments after the student was injured tells 27 NEWSFIRST the school's doors were shut behind her. She says she heard people screaming and saw a young man being wheeled out with nurse who had her hands on his chest. She says there was a lot of blood on the teenager.

Richmond Police say a 17-year old male student is in custody. The school is on lockdown and will remain that way until the end of the day. They do plan to send students home at their normal release time. Parents arriving at the school to pick their children up are currently being turned away as police are not allowing anyone to leave the building at this time.

Exactly. teachers are just there to get paid and to pass kids just to be passing them.

A friend I spoke with from Madison Central said he grabbed it from the food lab that they were in.

Your probably right, it adds up as well. But it is too easy to bring weapons to school. I've witnessed kids do it, and get away with it.

This absolutely makes zero sense whatsoever. Teachers are there to inspire, be role models, and educate our future...not to allow kids to bring weapons and harm one another. That is just pure ignorance. if you have never heard of a little thing called "No Child Left Behind" all students are to be at a level of Proficiency by 2014 (I believe) in the main content areas. I understand what you are saying about passing kids, with this day and age of parents being lawsuit happy, it's tough not to make that generalization...but to say that teachers allow students to harm one another is absurd!!!

Umm, 20 years ago, everybody had a knife. Case knives had alwasy been legal until no moe than 15 years ago
