Mashburn to return for Kentucky's bid for 2,000 basketball victories
#1
Jamal Mashburn, a former University of Kentucky basketball star and an NBA analyst at ESPN, will call UK's Dec. 21 game against Drexel for the network.

If the Wildcats win Saturday against Austin Peay, the Drexel game would be the program's first attempt to become the first college basketball program to win 2,000 games.
Rob Stone will provide play-by-play for the Drexel game. Mashburn and Jimmy Dykes will provide analysis. Jeannine Edwards will be the sideline reporter.
Mashburn, who played at UK from 1990-93, ranks sixth in school history with 1,843 career points.

I like it!

It would terrible to listen to but great for UK basketball if Kyle Macy AND Mashburn were both calling the game with the other commentator that coached/played for the Cats were there. (What is that guys name?)

My ears would BLEED listening to it but it would be symbolic.

Jimmy Dykes was an assistant at Kentucky, but played at the University of Arkansas. I really like him as an announcer especially when they put him with Brad Nessler.

I figured they'd do a big special on ESPN with Dicky V and Jimmy Dykes and maybe another guest announcer or something like that, but that still cool to have jamal mashburn!!

dickie v doesn't really do espnu games much mainly big games like uconn/uk etc games on espn/espn 2.

I was actually wondering if they may let Mashburn do the Y in the KENTUCKY spelling.

Well, i figured that since it's such a big milestone that they might try to switch the broadcast to ESPN and do a special! I mean 2,000 wins doesn't happen very often no matter who you're playing against.

It's funny you mentioned him I was thinking yesterday that he would be a good choice to call the game.

As for the game being switched to ESPN, I really don't see it happening. But it would be nice. Lexington is too far from Boston and the other New England states for ESPN to cause too much of a celebration over this historic event :eyeroll:
