Molester's human trafficking case could be first in NKY

COVINGTON - A convicted child molester who allegedly sold the boy he sodomized to another pedophile has become the first person in Kenton County - and possibly in Northern Kentucky - to be charged under the state's 3-year-old human trafficking law.

"It is the first human trafficking case in my administration," Kenton Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders said.

Bobby Jo Perry II, 39, of Elsmere faces five years to 10 years in prison if found guilty in Kenton Circuit Court of human trafficking.

The law making it a felony in Kentucky to force someone into labor, domestic work or the sex trade went into effect in July 2007. Ohio passed a similar law in December 2008.

A jury found Perry guilty Wednesday of one of two counts of first-degree sodomy. The crime is punishable by 20-50 years or life in prison, and the jury recommended a 45-year sentence. Kenton Circuit Judge Gregory Bartlett will sentence Perry on Nov. 8.

The victim, now 16, testified at trial that he was sodomized by Perry four times at the age of 11.

Perry is now awaiting trial on the human trafficking charge. Kenton Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Stephanie Kastner claims Perry accepted money from Lance Antonio Presswood in exchange for allowing that man to also sodomize the boy.

Kastner claims Perry and Presswood became acquaintances while locked up at the Kenton County jail on charges unrelated to molesting the boy. Kastner said Perry accepted the money after the pair got out of jail, but Kastner didn't know the amount that was exchanged.

Perry has been booked into the Kenton County jail at least eight times since 1997. Most of the arrests were on domestic violence charges. Presswood has been sent to the jail seven times since 2003 on charges ranging from cocaine possession to a probation violation.

Presswood, 42, of Cincinnati, is also charged with first-degree sodomy. He will be tried alongside Perry as prosecutors seek to convict him on the human trafficking charge. A date for that trial hasn't been set.

Presswood, freed July 2 on a $1,000 bond after his initial trial date was postponed, couldn't be reached Thursday for comment.

Perry's wife, 57-year-old Ernestine Perry, is also charged with multiple counts of rape for allegedly molesting the same boy. A hearing on her case is set for Monday in Kenton Circuit Court.

The wife was released from jail Nov. 24 on her own recognizance for what was described as serious health problems.

"The boy has been through a lot," Kastner said. "He has had a very, very difficult life, but I'm happy to say he is doing very well. He seems to be processing though it all. He is adjusting. He is doing well in school and getting good grades and involved in extracurriculars."
