Campaign 2010 Political Ads : The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
#1
We will all be deluged with campaign ads between now and the November elections, so I thought it would be good to have a single thread in which we can post and discuss some of the best and worst ads. Democrats are facing a particularly big challenge in this campaign, so I will be watching for effective Democratic ads and try not to overwhelm you with the ones produced by the GOP. Any Democrat who can produce an effective ad in this environment deserves some credit.

That being said, my first offering is one that I believe is devastatingly effective against West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin. Manchin has been a pretty popular governor but his opponent has been pretty successful in placing him on the defensive for his support of President Obama and the Democratic leadership in Congress. Manchin has been working hard to distance himself from Obama, Pelosi, and Reid, claiming that if elected he will not be a rubber stamp for Obama.

In response, Republican John Raese has been running a series of "Rubber Stamp Joe" ads, one of which is linked below.

As promised, here is a political ad by a Democrat that I think is pretty effective. The ad was produced by the Indiana Democratic Party. This is a negative ad and does not even mention the Democratic candidate by name, but assuming the allegations are factual, this is the kind of negative ads that candidates should run. It would have been even better had the candidate aired it himself instead of the party, IMO.

Conway sees his political career slipping away. It's too late to win on the issues, so he released this sleazy attack ad. I nominate this hit piece in the Bad and Ugly categories. If this kind of ad works, then Kentucky and Conway will deserve each other.

This is not anybody's campaign ad yet - but it should be. Disturbing, embarrassing, and strangely funny at the same time. This guy should make a series of videos on how to lose a debate - right after he promises to never, ever run for public office again.

Former California governor and current candidate for California governor, Jerry Brown, admits that he lied to get elected the first time that he ran for governor.

Pretty good research to find this old CNN clip by Meg Whitman's campaign staff.

I like watching politicians like Jerry Brown because you never know what they are going to say in an interview. Sometimes, the truth just slips out.

WOW! I am glad that a Republican Congressional candidate did not create this anti-Obama ad. Harris County, Texas, candidate for Congress, Kesha Rogers, is running on an impeach Obama platform. She argues that President Obama is clinically insane and must be removed under the 25th Amendment.

I wondered how this young woman, a follower of Lyndon LaRouche, managed to easily win the Democratic Party's nomination. However, after watching a couple of her videos, it is clear that she is much more articulate and intelligent than most incumbent Democrats. And while she is a bit of a nut case, she is no more nutty than several incumbents who have been in Congress for many years. I agree with many of her positions on our economy. She won't win but the election may not be the laugher that the DNC would like to see.

The following video was produced by her campaign and was posted on her website.

I hope that every TV station in California is playing this nonstop, but after seeing how a CBS affiliate in Anchorage conspired to sabotage Joe Millers campaign, it may be difficult to find it unless it is on a Fox affiliate station. American liberalist journalism at it finest.

Brown's biggest obstacle to overcome right now is not having Linda Rondstant hanging on his arm anymore like he did back in the good old days.
