Raceland Joining OVC conference in ohio?
#1
Talk has been going around that Raceland may join the OVC Conference in All Sports in the next year or so. Can anyone confirm this?
#2
That makes no sense. Who all is in the OVC?

Coal Grove, Chesapeake,Rockhill, Fairland and one other team. I don't know....A lot of Northern Ky teams have travel restrictions of 50 miles. Other than maybe District games and the playoffs. maybe this will happen at Raceland. Wouldn't it be great for your farthest away game to be only 30 minutes. Except for 2 district games. Think of the money we could make with teams just coming across the river to play.

Looking at the past schedules, all of Raceland's nondistrict games were within 50 miles with the exception of Pikeville and the district games. I still really don't understand the move. Unless they are looking for better nondistrict competition.
Would the other team be Wheelersburg? Just a guess.

I think it was river valley. And they are leaving it Which is why I think they want Raceland. I think it would be good for us. 5 conference games 2 district games and keep Russell and greenup on the schedule and we make a mint.

Is Raceland losing Ashland?

Last year of the contract is next year after that they will probably drop us. They know what's coming.....not only that but they will probably want to schedule bigger schools. Who knows......Maybe TJ and Floyd won't want to do it but, If fuel costs keep going up they may not have a choice in the matter.

I highly doubt this will happen

Rambait are you suggesting that Ashland will be afraid to schedule the Rams after next season? Dont these two teams pay each other year after year? I just assumed they always play. I know Raceland had a good middle school team this year and Ashland wasn't, but you guys know that doesn't always translate into how things will be at the Varsity level in a few years.

With regards to Raceland playing in the OVC, while I am not really familiar with any of those teams mentioned, would this realy help Raceland in the long run in FB? NOt sure of the quality of teams in OVC. May be a good fit for other sports from a scheduling standpoint.

I would like to see Raceland keep a mountain team on the schedule. If not Pikeville, maybe Johnson Central in a few years.

I think not.

I do not think OHSAA allows for this, heck you cannot live in KY go to school in OH and be eligible for sports.

Fun topic and good for stirring the pot, though!

It is very possible. Remember the OKAC confrence back in the late 80's and early 90's? I think it would help us from a football standpoint. The teams in that conference ar pretty decent from year to year. I think if 6uel prices and the cost of these away games keeps rising you will see something like this come to pass. As far as Ashland goes......I think they are looking to upgrade their schedule with a bigger school who will push them year in and year out. We obviously can't do that.

The OVC consists of the following teams:

Coal Grove
Rock Hill
Chesapeake
Fairland
River Valley
South Point

River Valley will leave the OVC to join the TVC in 2014.

http://www.irontontribune.com/2010/12/09...-join-tvc/

There are no restrictions by the OHSAA for teams to have league affiliations with non-Ohio teams. The problem arises when redistricting frequently occurs in Kentucky. The Kentucky teams are unable to accommodate the league schedule due to the restrictions in their own district schedule.

By the way, the OVC plays their league games at the end of the football season. This would coincide with the district games for Raceland. Therefore, I do not believe that it will occur.

Is River Valley a fairly new school? I have never heard of them. Where are they located?

Coal Grove-Solid team but not a state title threat
Rock Hill-Really bad
Chesapeake-can be good at times never a state title threat
Fairland-usually bad
River Valley-usually bad
South Point

If these teams are all not very good then will they have enough fan base following them to make it worth it for Raceland financially. Just because they are close doesn't mean they will bring fans with them. Raceland admin better think long and hard about his decision. Again it may be worthwhile for other sports but maybe not football. Remember: if football doesn't make money the other sports all suffer, that is the simple truth as I see it.

So, a KY team could play for the OH state title????

There is no way raceland would do something this dumb! I could see Fairview doing this to get out of playing the Rams, Fairview has maybe one more year of a decent team and then it will be back to the same ole thing year after year, as soon as Turner is gone the pipe line is gone. Why do you think Mcpeek is moving on, he built a resume!

Don't understand your post? Why I can see why other schools would want to hire him he is building a great PROGRAM at Fairview. You can see it from the community support and by how many kids they have to play. While I know its tough for you to handle I would consider Raceland/Fairview a true rival game now because Fairview is beating them some now where as before Raceland was killing Fairview for the most part. This game will be intense for years to come and good luck to both teams in the offseason.

Why join the conference just schedule these teams in your regular season
#23
Well not really Highlands but if you could take a couple of their fans with you and leave them in Ohio the rest of the state would be thankful!!!! Confusedinglepar
