Zach Hester, Linebacker/Boyle County
#1
A second-team selection as a junior, Hester started on both sides of the ball as a senior but was a star on defense.

The 6-foot-2 215-pounder finished with 163 tackles, three fumble recoveries and three interceptions despite nagging injuries on a defense that allowed only 157 points. He had more than 300 career tackles.

“He finds the ball, reads really well, has great technique and has a great instinct to find the football,” coach Larry French said. “We moved him around quite a bit on offense this year. You can play him pretty much anywhere on the football field.”

As a junior, Hester was lined up opposite Mr. Football Lamar Dawson, who played as a freshman at USC. He was third with 129 tackles and helped the 15-0 Rebels to a Class 4-A state title.

Hester also was used at quarterback, running back and tight end. He ran for 572 yards and seven touchdowns, catching 18 passes for 275 yards and three TDs. He completed 2 of 3 passes for 13 yards at quarterback.

Hester has committed to play at the Naval Academy.

He's pretty dang good. I'm sure he'll make a very good transition into the college level of play.
