If variety is truly the spice of life, this should be an interesting year for Nelson County baseball.
Coach David Sparrow has only one returning position player returning from last yearâs 19th District runner-up team.
But that doesnât mean that the cupboard is completely bare for the fourth-year coach.
Not only do the Cardinals return their two top pitchers from a year ago, but they have a plethora of players who can play multiple positions.

Senior Bradley Gerage, above, anchors a veteran Nelson County pitching staff along with classmate Tim Dugger. The Cardinals’ season opens Monday.
